Prussian general officer Oktavio von Boehn entered military service in 1840 as an officer in the 9th Infantry Regiment in Kolberg. As a battalion commander in the Kaiser-Franz-Regiment fighting in the Austro-Prussian War of 1866, Major von Boehn was awarded the Pour le Merite order. He also commanded an infantry regiment during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71, where he was wounded during the battle of St Privat-la-Montagne.

As a brigade commander, Generalmajor von Boehn submitted his resignation from the Prussian Army in 1876 but was denied. He instead progressed on to command 21st Infantry Division in 1880 and the the Sixth Army Corps in 1888, when he was promoted to General der Infanterie. His brother Julius was also a Prussian general.
