Gustav Adolf Oskar Wilhelm FH von Meerscheidt-Hüllessem (15.10.1825 - 26.12.1895) place of birth: Berlin General von Meerscheidt-Hüllessem served in the Prussian military as the commander of Fifth Army Corps and the Guards Corps. He initially joined the 21st Infantry Regiment at Thorn in 1843 and fought during the German Revolutions of 1848. Meerscheidt served a a company commander during the Danish War of 1864 and as a battalion commander in the Austro-Prussian War of 1866. During the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71, Colonel Meerscheidt- Hüllessem commanded the 41st Infantry Regiment, taking part in the campaign at Metz and in northern France. During peacetime, he took command of Fifth Army Corps in Posen in 1886, and in 1888 replaced Alexander von Pape as commander of the Guards Corp, retiring from active duty in 1893. |
