Dohna-Schlobitten
(04.03.1784 - 21.02.1859)
place of birth: Schloss Finkenstein, Westpreußen
(Kamieniec, Poland)
Königreich

(Kav)
Prussian count Dohna-Schlobitten began
his active military service as a Portepée-Fähnrich
(officer's candidate) in 1798 in Königsberg,
East Prussia. He proved himself to be one of Scharnhorst's most
promising students. Later, as a professional soldier, Graf zu
Dohna-Schlobitten saw action at Eylau while serving on General
L'Estorcq's staff. He was wounded and spent time as a prisoner of war in
France. He subsequently distinguished himself while serving on
Scharnhorst's general staff and was thus awarded the Pour le Merite
in 1807.
The count married General von Scharnhorst's daugher Julie and
then served with Clausewitz in Russia. Dohna-Schlobitten was also
engaged at the Battle of Waterloo as a colonel and was promoted
major general in 1822. In 1839, King of Prussia Friedrich Wilhelm II
appointed him as commanding general of II. Army Corps in Stettin. Graf
zu Dohna-Schlobitten also commanded I. Army Corps and in 1848 was
awarded the Order of the Black Eagle. He declined the appointment
as Minister President and retired in 1854 at the rank of
Generalfeldmarschall.
