General of Infantry and Chief of
General Staff Wilhelm von Krauseneck began his military career in 1791
as a cadet in Ansbach's local artillery troop contingent. He was also an
engineer and topographer. Krauseneck took part in the 1793-94 campaign
in France and in 1807 distinguished himself during fighting at Heilsberg
and Eylau, winning the Pour le Merite. In 1813 as a member
of Blücher's general staff, he saw action at Bautzen
and Lützen, where he was wounded in
action. Krauseneck thereafter served as commandant of the fortresses in
Graudenz and Mainz. He culminated his distinguished military career by
serving for twenty years as Prussian Chief of General Staff from
(1829-49).
