One of King Friedrich Wilhelm II's
closest confidants, Bogislav von Tauentzien took part in the 1793
campaign against France as a young military officer. He led troops at
Jena as a Generalmajor, thereafter taking command of the Brandenburg
Brigade where he busied himself with the reorganization of the Prussian
Army. He also headed up a corps during engagements at Grossbeeren
and Dennewitz, helping to defeat Napoleon during the 1813
occupation of the fortresses at Torgau and Wittenberg.
General von Tauentzien later commanded Prussia's 6. Army Corps, as well
as 3. Army Corps. In 1889, the Brandenburg Infantry Regiment Nr. 20 was
renamed in Tauentzien's honor.
