When I left high school I went to Arkansas A&M for one semester. My dad, Buster Brown,
worked for Gulf Oil and was transferred back to Mansfield Louisiana. So I left school and came
on back with them to Mansfield. I went to work for a short period. Then I married Bufford Vines
in 1959. Bufford was in the service at the time. We went to Washington State for 18 months in Olympia
at Ft. Lewis. Then we moved back to Shreveport. I worked for the Frank Lyon Company,
a wholesale distributor, for the next 27 years. Mr. Lyon then closed the business. So in
1991 I went to work for Dr. Jerry Drummond, an optholmologist in Shreveport. I'm still there. I
do general office. I make appointments. I check people in and out. I work almost part time now.
I work about 4 days a week.
Bufford went to work at Foremost Dairies when we came back from Washington. Then he went
into the retail business. He was an assistant manager at Dillards Department Store for a while.
Later he went to work for what is now the Exide Corporation. They make car batteries. He
retired in 1991. I would retire if I did not have such a good boss and such a good job.
Bufford and I played some golf in earlier years. But now we just hang out with friends. We were traveling
a lot a few years ago. We would make trips to Branson, Hot Springs and Eureka Springs. We
are active in the Oak Crest Christian Church. He is elder there and I play the piano when the
regular pianist can not be there..
My husband's health has not been really good in the last three years. So we have not been
traveling very much lately. I don't think that we will be able to make it to the reunion. But I
would like to see everyone again.
