After we graduated in 1956, Sue Oldham and I went to nursing school in
Memphis. She graduated and I did not. I married Johnny Barker from
Marianna in 1957. Since Johnny was an Air Force pilot, we lived from
Mississippi to Arizona to Florida. One daughter and three sons were born
during those years before Vietnam. I was privileged to be a Stay at home
Mom.
After Vietnam, Johnny went to work for Pan Am and we moved to San
Francisco. The company sent him to NYC and we moved our family back to
Arkansas and Johnny commuted to New York. He was never home after that so he
quit Pan Am and opened an agricultural flying service in Marianna. I ran his
office for 13 years (don't ever work for a farmer). When he got tired diving
at the ground, he went to work at the First Natl. Bank in Fayetteville as
their first in house computer person. He went from there to be an IT
Director for an oil company. We were there 12 years before he retired and
we moved back to Marianna where we have a home on Bear Creek.
Our four children gave us 12 beautiful Grandchildren, eight grandsons and four
granddaughters. We are grateful they are all healthy, happy and busy. I am
involved in church work and have taught Bible Studies everywhere we have
been. My hobby is interior design and I love historical novels.
