After Central High, I attended the University of Arkansas receiving a degree in Chemical
Engineering in 1960. After a brief stint in graduate school, I joined Humble Oil & Refining Co.
(now Exxon/Mobil) and have since enjoyed a 43-year career in the oil and gas industry before
retiring in 2003. During my career, I was also associated with Coastal Corp., Mitchell Energy
Corp., and Dynegy, Inc. I have lived in Texas since 1961: Houston, Baytown, Corpus Christi
(twice), and (since 1982) The Woodlands, a master planned community in the Houston area. I
spent most of my working years in the technical side of the natural gas industry. I have served
on and chaired numerous industry committees, authored and presented several technical papers at
national conferences, and patented a new petroleum process.
I married Linda Pilgreen of Clanton, Alabama, in 1969. We have one child, a boy, born in 1979.
He has an engineering degree from Trinity University and works for a biotechnology firm in
Champaign, Illinois. As he was growing up, we had fun vacationing in a different national park
each summer. During the high school years, we enjoyed spring break vacations skiing in
Colorado. And we've squeezed in several European trips. We're empty nesters now and have no
grandchildren. Both of us are healthy and fortunately have never had any serious medical
problems. Linda received a degree in Biology from Alabama College (now University of
Montevallo) and a Master's degree from Central Michigan University. She enjoyed a career in
the medical field before becoming a stay-at-home mom. She now works part-time as an
environmentalist with the company that manages The Woodlands. She is a Master Gardener and
her hobbies are gardening and birding. I regret that I never developed much in the way of
hobbies or outside interests over the years. I have been a jogger for over 35 years but last year
switched to walking (it's easier). As a retiree, I do volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity.
