To my Classmates:

When I left high school, my brother Bubba, and my classmates, William Tindall and Jesse Crabtree and I all joined the Navy together.

I first went to boot camp in San Diego, California. I was there with Dan Casteel. Then I went aboard the USS Amphion AR 13 (repair ship) in oct. '56. They told me, the ship would stay tied up at pier 2 in Norfolk, Va, ( ha ha ha) I was listed as a bos'n, but did a little of everything. I enjoyed being helmsman a lot. I Thought about becoming a quartermaster, a cook, a gunners mate, but I loved being a helmsman. The only way to be a helmsman, was to be a bos'n. Besides, I was only in the navy for two years. Why not enjoy it? Well, I enjoyed the two years I put in the navy. Other than school, it was the best time of my life. I almost re-enlisted, but they would not let me enlist in the Sixth Fleet (Middle East). When in Norfolk, I spent a lot of time in New York (Bethpage Long Island). I had a good buddy, who lived there named Charles P. Klahne. I had a two year tour of duty aboard the Amphion. We toured the entire east coast of the United States, visiting the ports in Florida, Delaware, Rhode Island, Brooklyn Naval Yard and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. My ship also spent 9 months in Europe and the Mediterranean Sea area. I visited Cannes, France, and made stops in Greece, Turkey and Spain among others. After my two year tour, I was honorably discharged from the Navy and returned to Arkansas, where I worked at several odd jobs for about six months.

Then in 1959 I went to work for Arkansas Power and Light company, where I stayed until 1995 when I retired after 36 years of service with them. While with AP&L I worked many different jobs. I started out as a groundman, then a truckdriver, boomtruck operator, crane operator, dozer operator and finally a tractor trailer driver. .

In 1961 I married Helen Marie Felty, and we had a daughter, Toni. Toni is now grown and married and has a son, Nick Finley, who is a college student. In 1971 Helen and I divorced. I then married my present wife, Nadean Fern Pipes. Nadean was originally from Iowa. She was working as a waitress when I met her. Nadean has two daughters by a former marriage, my step-daughters, whose names are Donna and Pam.

Donna was married and has a daughter named Alexis, who was born in 1994. Donna is now divorced. Pam has three children. Her son, Colt, is now on active duty in the Marine Corps. Her twins, Wesley and Erika are seniors in high school this year. My daughter, Toni, lives within a hundred miles of me. My stepchildren are within 75 miles. One lives next door.

I think we should keep in touch with the class from now on or until..... I still like all sports, hunting and fishing. That's about it for a short bio. Some things I want to remember...some things I don't want to remember. Hoping to see you soon.

Willmore (with two L's)
