Brief Bio In 1956 Military Service was a requirement and the Arkansas National Guard was my choice. I enlisted in 1957 and served for about 10 years with regular drills and summer camps at Camp Robinson, Little Rock; Camp Polk, Louisiana; and Fort Bliss, Texas. I began as a Private and advanced to a Specialist E-5 serving mostly as Battery Clerk, or in the Fire Direction Center.

After Graduation I was employed by the Phillips National Bank as a Bookkeeper in June 1956, and I planned to save my money and go to college the next year. That did not happen. My schooling became on the job training and correspondence courses with the American Institute of Banking. The courses completed were Principles of Bank Operations, Negotiable Instruments and Commercial Law. After that I completed the following Banking Schools:

1964 School of Banking of the South, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA 1966 National Automation School, Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana 1972 National Trust School, Northwestern, Evanston, Illinois 1986 National Graduate Trust School, Northwestern, Evanston, Illinois 1992 ABA's Graduate School of Bank Investments and Financial Management, University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado I participated in many other educational courses and seminars as the opportunity presented. I served on the Arkansas Bankers Association Junior Bankers Executive Council in 1965, The Trust Committee in 1975 and 1985 and the Operations Committee in 1979.

At the bank I worked in many areas. Some of these were: Bookkeeper, Teller, Assistant Cashier, Assistant Vice President, Cashier, Secretary of the Trust Committee, Vice President and Cashier, Secretary of the Board of Directors, Senior Vice President - Cashier and Trust Officer, Loans, Manager of the Trust Department and the Investment Portfolios of First National Bank of Phillips County, The Delta State Bank of Elaine, The Elk Horn Bank of Arkadelphia, and the Delta Southern Bank of Ruleville, MS. It appears that I worked in the same bank building at 502 Cherry Street about 48 years until my retirement on March 31, 2003.

I have been involved in many community activities such as:
Lions Club since 1964 and President 1967-68 and 1971-72
