Film image: A result of eighteen frames of Fuji Astia 100F digitally stacked in RegiStax,  average exposures of about 1/3 second each @ f/50, with a Celestron 11" SCT and Olympus OM-1n camera. Currently, Fuji Astia 100F is the finest grained color film available.

Webcam image: A result of 120 frames of 1/33 second exposure from a Philips ToUcam Pro webcam @ f/33 with a Celestron 11" SCT, digitally stacked in RegiStax.

Film image was taken at 5:30 UT, Webcam image taken earlier at 5:00 UT from East Dennis, MA on 8-21-2003.

These results are displayed here at image scales that result in what is probably the best web appearance for the film and webcam images respectively. At the imaging plane, actually the film image Mars was larger due to being recorded at f/50 as compared to the webcam's f/33.

Additional processing of both images performed with Photoshop 6 and grain/noise reduction in Neat Image.
