About the author

Jeff Kanipe is a science writer and editor specializing in astronomy. He's written skywatching columns to long investigations of cutting-edge cosmology - and just about everything in between.

NEW: The Cosmic Connection: How Astronomical Events Affect Life on Earth is now out from Prometheus Books. Check out the book's website here. Jeff will be signing copies at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at the American Astronomical Society meeting in Washington DC.

Jeff's 2007 book, The Arp Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies: A Chronicle and Observer's Guide (with Dennis Webb), was adapted for an exhibit at the Schneider Museum of Art, Southern Oregon University in Ashland. The show ran from January 15, 2009, through March 29, 2009. It featured 30 full-color images of interacting galaxies along with astronomy-themed works from a baker's dozen of American artists, including Lita Albuquerque, Russell Crotty, and Trevor Paglen. See photos from the exhibit here.

Jeff's 2006 book Chasing Hubble's Shadows: The Search for Galaxies at the Edge of Time is an account of astronomers' quest to look back to the first stars and galaxies in the universe. "Instructive and enjoyable," says Science News; "bound to excite and inspire," says New Scientist. For more about Jeff's other books, click the 'Books' tab at right or go directly here.

Jeff is available for lectures or other speaking engagements.
