How Do We Start the day?

All students should sit outside of Room 401 until 8:40.  During this time in the hall, students should talk quietly or choose an activity from the shelf.  Students may enter the room to work quietly.  Please use restroom prior to coming to class. Students should be in the room by 8:45. Students should sit on the line during silent meditation or move to the line immediately after announcements so we can have our morning meeting.

How do we end the day?

At 2:20 PM class will begin to clean up for the day.  All workspaces should be clean and all messes cleaned up - REGARDLESS IF IT IS YOURS OR NOT.  No work will be checked during this time and there should be little to no talking. Students should get their activity and sit down so that we can start Read Aloud. Car riders and extended day will be dismissed at 3:05. I will ring the bell when it is time to gather backpacks.

Mrs. Pond’s expectations

1.       WHEN IS YOUR WORK COMPLETE AND ACCEPTABLE?

A.       Your work is completed when it is checked off and highlighted by my assistant, a substitute, or myself on your work plan.

B.     Your work is acceptable when it meets the “HOW” standards and 100% of your work is correct.

C.     NEVER SAY: “I AM FINISHED WITH MY WORK.”  If you complete the assignments given to you for that day, then YOU CHOOSE WORK to practice on or work on areas of interest.  There is always room for you to learn and practice more.  Good behavior in the class will result in you choosing from the Reward List.

2.       WHAT HAPPENS IF YOUR WORK IS NOT ACCEPTABLE OR COMPLETED?

A.       If your work is not at 100%, then you are expected to redo your work.  Seek help from a friend or an adult.

B.     If your work is not completed then you are expected to complete it either at home as homework, or if you don’t complete at least five or six assignments before lunch then you will not have recess.  You will stay in the room to complete your work.

SO TRY HARD AND DO YOUR BEST!!

3.       HOW DO YOU GET HELP?

Find the teacher or assistant and tell us you don’t understand.  If the teacher is teaching a lesson you need to find another work to work on and wait for the teacher to get finished.  DO NOT INTERUPT ANY LESSONS THAT ARE BEING TAUGHT! We are here for you, but you must TRY FIRST!  Read and reread ALL directions and information before asking for help.

4.       HOW DO YOU GET CHECKED OFF ON YOUR WORK PLAN?

Your work will be checked off every day.  If we are at

our desk we are available to check work.

DO NOT STAND AND WAIT ON A TEACHER WHO IS BUSY

BECAUSE YOU NEED YOUR WORKPLAN CHECKED OFF.

If there are already four students in line DO NOT

COME UP!  Work on something else until the line is

shorter.  Work may also be turned in for me to check when

you go to library or other resources.

Work plans are to be turned in at Writer's Workshop. This is not a time to bring work up to be checked.

5.       WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU LOSE YOUR WORKPLAN?

If you lose your work plan you are still expected to complete

work assigned to you.  I will not give you another one.  You

may make your own and time permitting I will mark off

assignments already completed. Parents may copy

          extras off the website.

6.       WHO’S RESPONSIBLE FOR CLEANING UP?

EVERYONE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CLEANING UP.

Neatness is very important to me.  This is not just my

classroom, but it is also yours.  That means you keep your

workspace and storage area clean and neat.  Loose papers

should not be in your cubby!  A folder will be provided for you

to keep workplans and loose papers.  All work areas, (rug,

or table) need to be clean at the end of the day. (Unless

you are in the middle of a work and have spoken to me.)

If you have a job of the week, I expect you to do that job.

7.       HOW DO I HANDLE THE MATERIALS IN THIS ROOM- MEANING BOOKS, SUPPLIES, AND WORK?

All materials have a “home” or place to be put.  The classroom is labeled and there should be no reason not to get that material in its right place.  If you are unsure where to put something, please let someone know.  If the material is numbered, make sure it goes back in the right order.  Books should be put back properly also.  (Spine out, colored dot at the bottom, with other books with similar dots)  If you see a mess, clean it up.  WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!

YOU ARE SMART AND CAPABLE OF DOING ANYTHING!!

TRY HARD AND ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST!

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ORDINARY AND EXTRAORDINARY IS THE LITTLE EXTRA!
