Visual Propaganda During World War II: A Key Element of Communication and Persuasion on the Societies of Germany and the United States
|
|
Visual propaganda is a tool of persuasion that is used to communicate to the common person. Visual propaganda has a short message that gets the point across and is very easy to understand. Unlike propaganda through speech or an address given, that might go right over the heads of the uneducated or lower educated civilians. Both Nazi’s and Americans alike needed support economically and militarily. Many people think that propaganda has lightened since World War II. Although the propaganda of today may not be as ruthless or racist, it is still here and here to stay. Propaganda of World War II changed the idea of mass propaganda, they either flooded the society with dreams of a better life, and a more unified country. Other times they instilled them with fear to promote the ideas of the government. This type of propaganda carries into today’s society, such as the anti-tobacco organizations, animal rights groups, terrorists and anti-terrorists organizations, and political parties. There is a logical explanation as to why Nazis found it sane to try to eliminate a whole organized religion, its because the Nazi's filled the minds of their kin with iniquity and stereotypical images of the so called “enemy”. Visual propaganda enhances the morale in the troops and increases the support from their civilians in their economy. In short, visual propaganda's importance is seen through its power to inform and persuade the subjects of their scheme.
