After purchasing Angelfood Ministries food boxes for a year and not knowing what to cook each month, I decided to use a paid monthly menu. This of course seemed counter intuitive since I was trying to save money. I then decided to create a menu for my family and post it on my site free for all to use. A couple of notes about my menus. My family is four people including 1 teenaged boy and a hungry husband and usually have leftovers for lunch the next day. The recipes are scaled as such. I include on my menus instructions for tomorrows meals if necessary. I tape the calendar to the refrigerator so I can remember what to thaw today for tomorrow. These instructions are written in parenthesis. Angel food boxes are meant to serve a family of 4 for one week. So each week takes 1 angel food box. I often will purchase a special or two from Angelfood. When I do I usually use those first if they are perishable. About two recipes a week are slow cooker recipes. I try to put menus which will take more preparation time at the end of the week. Did you know the average family of 4 spends $900 on groceries a month? I don’t know about you but that would blow my budget. With this menu you should be able to save at least half that. More if you clip coupons or shop at discount stores. These menus take The grocery list calculations are done by what it would cost to buy everything each week. Obviously if you already have flour, sugar, and spices this cost would be much less. Also if you buy flour one week you probably would not need it the next week. Things like this I have highlighted in purple on the list, some things which may be smart to buy in bulk are also listed in purple. For example at a big box club I can usually get 10 cans of cream of mushroom soup for $5 much less than buying each can individually. What is Angelfood Ministries? Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing food relief and contributing to benevolent outreaches in communities throughout the United States.
