Chris Mule's MiM Mission Statement

Musical Platform
Wow, how unfortunate that they are looking to crack down on T music. Judging by the looks on many commuters faces, music on the platform was the only thing keeping them from jumping in front of the train. This will also create an interesting challenge for musicians looking to be heard. Buscar's (street musicians), play an important role in urban musical tradition. Can you find more purity than these types of musicicans? There is much to say about this topic and wish I was there to talk about it with you...man I miss Boston!

DC is a totally different kind of city. I will describe it in 5 words: "Suits", "Badges", "CVS", "POVERTY", "POWER" and "Escalators". Very interesting place. I hope all of you are well!!!!!

Give the People What They Want
I've had my crack team of web programming monkeys working full time tonight to bring a plethora of new features to this blog. I wish that they could have completed more, but I ran out of bananas, and you know that you just can't get anything done once you're out of bananas. So, I bring you a Blog Archive, so that you can go back and read what was said in the past - it's almost like a time machine. You'll see the link to these archives on the right sidebar. We've also gone ahead and added some new links. If anyone has suggestions for more linkage, I'm happy to expand the list. Happy browsing.

T Music Update
Susan has found this website which explains what's being done and what you can do about MBTA's plan to radically change the way that you hear music on the T. MBTA's argument is that it's basically a way to be terrorism-ready. However, their own admission that they pushed these new guidelines out rather secretly isn't very comforting.

And Jen has shown me the direct link to the petition. It's right over here.

Shhh...I'm waiting for the train
I don't know if this is old news, but I just read that, as of December 1st, electric guitars and keyboards, amps, microphones, horns, and saxophones will be banned on the T platforms because they interfere with the PA system. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has actually ever been able to understand what any of those announcements have been trying to say. If someone has more information about this ban, I'd be interested in hearing about it or reading it.

Greetings
How are all of you? I am glad to see some new names on the blog. There is so much to say but I have little time. The Smithsonian is very interesting, I am learning quite a bit about the institution and all of the excellent ideas they are trying to promote. The other day I sat in on a production meeting where they spoke about how to best market their product while keeping the documentary and educational integrity of the music. That was a very surprising bottom line to hear these days. My feelings on The Washington DC are mixed...beautiful government buildings but I don't like the people in them. Most importantly, I have not heard a decent song on the radio since I showed up here, not to mention my music is sitting in my storage locker in the DC ghetto....more on this later...

I miss you guys!

Chris

Sunday Beethoven Concert.
I wanted to remind all y'all about the concert this coming Sunday in Natick. The Lydian String Quartet rocks. I'd love to have you there. See the Oct. 29th posting for details, email (fmcrocitto@hotmail.com) or call me at 781.893.3372.

P.S. - I think it's very, very interesting and one might say downright bizarre what you did when you first came home yesterday evening. Yes...I was in fact spying on you. Surprised?

The KLF
I've found a pretty extensive FAQ about the KLF. It explains (as much as it can) their views of the record industry, art, and music. Some of the highlights are:

Thrash metal version of "3 AM Eternal" on the BRIT Awards

Burning 1 million British Pounds

DJ Alexandra
DJ Alexandra will be spinning tunes this Thursday at River Gods in Cambridge located at 125 River Street, which is near Central Square. I may have to check that out.

Last Night
Here are some links to things we talked about and bands we heard last night. Should I tell everyone about the strippers who showed up?

British Sea Power

WZBC, or here (no, these sites do not have pictures of our favorite DJ)

Anticon - Maine hip-hop!

Rasputina - There are still a few tickets available to see them tomorrow night with Belle & Sebastian

Ween

And, yes, I confirmed last night that Neil Hannon, the guy behind Divine Comedy, is just a rich kid with nothing better to do than be pretentious with his music. Apparently, his father was a bishop in Northern Ireland.

Now that Chris is Gone...
The Derek Trucks Band is playing at the Somerville Theater on Saturday, November 29th. For those of you not familiar with Derek, he's a young blues guitarist who Chris has been raving about lately. I saw him play with Bob Dylan a few years back and wasn't impressed with what he did in that context, but he was still an excellent musician. I'm sure if Mr. Mule were here he'd drag as many of you to the show as he could.

Eminem vs. the Smiths?
Hey all,

just happened upon this article about people mixing mp3s from different artists together using music editing software, resulting in such pairings as Nirvana and Destiny's Child, the Strokes and Christina Aguillera, and many more bizzare combinations. The article link is:

http://www.eye.net/eye/issue/issue_05.30.02/thebeat/bootlegs.html

A large clearinghouse site for these bootlegged mp3's is:

http://www.boomselection.net

Haven't checked it out yet but sounds promising!

Don't forget, the JP Food and Arts meeting is tonight for anyone who is interested.

The Onion A.V. Club | Ween
Jessica, Allison and I saw Ween last week. Jessica was bored because she was tired and didn't know the music. Allison was disappointed that the music didn't sound like the album. I, for the first time in my life, bough music based on what I heard at a show, and now I am slowly becoming obsessed with Ween, now that I have taken time to listen to them. Their new record, "Quebec," is excellent. Here is a great quotation from Dean Ween:

"And now, if you're just going to download tracks off a web site for 99 cents apiece, that really doesn't interest me. That feels like buying bananas or carrots or something."

I think this quotation explains exactly what MiM is all about--stopping the commodification of art.
