Howard Dean Remixed - Yeeeah!
Howard Dean's rant and yell from after the Iowa caucuses has been remixed into what will surely be the biggest dance hit of the year.

Local Radio
I've just added links to some local radio stations on the right here. If you have other favorite stations, please let me know and I'll add them to the list. I'm sure that other people reading this will be interested to maybe discover some new outlets for music to which they aren't usually exposed. As we know, these outlets are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
I'd be curious to hear how many people actually listen to webcasts of these stations, or out-of-town stations for that matter. I still check out the webcast at WKPS, my old Penn State student radio station. It's a shameless plug, yeah, but you really should check out the Indie 500 show.

About Bush, not music
I usually try to keep these posts about music, but this one is too good not to let everyone know about. You may have heard about a contest that's been organized by moveon.org called Bush in 30 Seconds. It's a forum for filmmakers (meaning, anyone with access to a camera) to create a 30 second ad speaking about some of W's policies. The plan is to buy a spot and air the winning ad during the State of the Union address later this month. They have some really good ads there, and you can view the 15 finalists on their website now. The winner will be chosen by a panel of celebrity judges (Michael Stipe, Moby, Margaret Cho, Jack Black, Michael Moore, etc.) and announced at an event next week. You can also submit your own vote for Funniest Ad, Best Animated Ad, and Best Youth Market Ad. It's good to see so many people putting such an effort into speaking out. I wish that more of these ads could get to a wide audience like the winner will.

Live, and right here
It's time again for me to ask if anyone wants to join me at any of these upcoming concerts. I already have tickets for SFA and Bright Eyes, and I'm thinking of going to a few of the others. Lemme know if you're interested.

Gomez Monday, January 19, Paradise - Bluesy indie kids from Manchester, UK

The Notwist Thursday, February 4, Middle East - German, used to be hardcore punk, now they've discovered electronics and are pleasant to listen to

Super Furry Animals Saturday, February 7, Somerville Theater - Fun Welsh pop; probably the only band to make the charts with a song that says "fuck" over 50 times ("The Man Don't Give a Fuck" - it's brilliant)

Elvis Costello Friday, February 27, Wang Theater - 3rd time in Boston in 3 years, too bad the latest album is crap

Bright Eyes, M Ward & Jim James (of My Morning Jacket) Sunday, February 29, Somerville Theater - Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes) is the sulky, good-looking Dylan-esque indie kid, and he writes damn good songs

David Bowie Tuesday, March 30, Fleet Center - you know him
