Adaptationism

• London School of Economics - Darwin
  The institutional support for unfettered storytelling is immense if you can suck up to the right interests. LSE is even printing their own collections of stories (thinly veiled political tracts) under the grave spinning name of Darwinism Today.
• Human Behavior and Evolution Society
  These things wax and wane but these days the most unrepentant story telling can be found in Evolutionary Psychology. HBES is the home for this sort of thing.
• Leda Cosmides & John Tooby's site
  These two have been hot housing evolutionary psychology and much of it leads back to them. See especially their mini-tutorial.
• Creationist(!?) Adaptationism
  John Woodmorappe's site of stories discusses adaptations since the fall as he fights "the stultifying effects of uniformitarian thought."
• Pliocene Pussy Cat Theory
  This is Lorenzo Love's spoof of the Aquatic Ape Hypothesis. Unlike most of the other stories on our site this one is meant to be funny. But we decided to include it since it is precious!
• Cogweb's Debate site
  This set of links includes Steve Gould's recent rejection of the recent wave of pop-evolutionary storytelling. But don't let that slow you down. If Gould makes you feel as if you should be more cautious dive right into Cosmides and Tooby's rebuttal or better yet visit their site again (listed above).

  Unofficial site. Dawkins is the modern patron saint of adaptationist story telling.

Book reviews

• Boston Review Archives - On Evolution
  These articles are mostly critical of the kind of uncorseted story telling that we are trying to encourage on this site. So visit there only after you are sure that your mind is made up.
• New York Review of Books
  • Stephen Jay Gould on Darwinian fundamentalism (and part 2). This is somewhat critical so you may want to avoid it.
    There were of course responses from the all the usual suspects; Dennett, Pinker, Cosmides & Tooby (see the "Cogweb" debate site above).
  • Frank Sulloway on Matt Ridley's The Origins of Virtue. This is not critical at all and so is perfect for total immersion.
