Yamato Crew Uniforms

You very likely recognize the Yamato crew uniform pictured below, but not everyone understands all of the color combinations and other little things about it. This page attempts to remedy this situation.

To start off, for all of you who sew (or otherwise are looking to produce a uniform), here are some hints about this uniform. Everything in the picture is proportioned correctly - no animator goofs here! The colored area of the sleeves are double-pointed, on either side of the arm . The area of the pant leg, however, starts low in front and raises to a point at the back of the leg. The shoes are white, with the sole the same color as the arrow (the exception being Black Tiger pilots who sometimes can be seen wearing brown shoes). As far as we can tell, the shirt is a pull-over, although this makes one wonder what the collar is made of. In all Yamato stories prior to Yamato III, the collar matches the color of the arrow for group leaders only, while the rest of the crew have white collars. In Yamato III, everyone has a colored collar, but the new crew members also have a white slash mark at the front of the collar.
