The newly AMA sanctioned (#4817) House Mountain Radio Control club kicked off membership sign up with an inaugural Fly-In at Thompson Airpark, despite the threatening rain. The showers stayed away until late afternoon allowing 20-30 pilots to try out the field and 10 flyers to join the HMRC club for 2008. Several others stated their intentions to join soon.
Our hosts, the Thompsons, who own the property used for the flying field, spent the week preparing the site for the fly-in by blading and graveling the drive, installing an entrance gate and mowing the field. There was also much work done to prepare the ground for the actual R/C runway which will be located on the other side of the full-scale airstrip. The club will fly temporarily on the full-scale airstrip until new grass is established on the new runway, which I am told will be 60ft x 600ft Bermuda grass.
The Thompsons also provided doughnuts, muffins and coffee in the morning and a delicious barbeque lunch with an abundance of extras, all for a modest donation. The Fly-In had a great family atmosphere with everyone meeting a lot of future flying buddies and many reunions of old flying friends. There was also a large turnout of spectators from the surrounding area.
For those interested in joining HMRC please download the application form from the link below. Also, there are links to the club by-laws and field rules. Please keep in mind that this is a newly formed club and we have a lot of work to do on all of these documents as the membership and regular flying routines develop.
