Besos (Mexican Kisses)


One of my favorite cookies to make during the holidays, these are cinnamon sugar cookies.  They call for margarine, which I normally wouldn’t use. However for this recipe, they really do come out better with margarine than with butter.   By Marge Harland in The World’s Fare cookbook published by the Cincinnati International Visitors Center.



1 cup margarine

2 cups granulated sugar

¼ tsp baking soda

2 cups sifted flour

1 tsp cinnamon


Preheat oven to 350 degrees.


Cream margarine and sugar until light and fluffy.  Work in dry ingredients.  Roll out on slightly floured board to about ¼ inch thick and cut in to small rounds (or whatever shape you want).  Bake on a cookie sheet until light brown, 7 to 10 minutes.  While still hot, roll in a mixture of ½ cup sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon.


Yield: About 4 dozen kisses (if you do 1-1/4” rounds)
