The railroad has invested in some new equipment (a digital camera) and is proud to display some new promotional artwork.
The new turntable in Sutter is up and running and its first rider is the local 060 switcher. The tender is a loner while it's usual companion is in the shop for repairs.
Another view of the the turntable. It is a motorized Peco turntable, slow and smooth! The 060 is a Bachmann with an added headlight and a little paint.
A little switching activity in the Sutter yard at dusk. (Plywood? I didn't see any plywood...)
The end of a long day. Time to go to beans!
The local crosses the trestle out of town after dark as an SP highball approaches in the distance.
Same shot as above with some different settings (I'm still learning...)
These are a few random progress photos from April, 2002.
This helix takes trains from Sutter up to Angels Camp. It was constructed in two removable peices, with a peice of Atlas 11" radius curved track joining them. This is visable at the right where white styrene wheel guides protect the joints.
Here's a close up shot of the "brains" of the DCC system, the booster and the PM4. The booster takes commands from the throttles and sends signals through the AC current to the trains where decoders then convert the signals back to the commands to the motor. The PM4 acts as additional circuit breakers and a reversing section controller.
The latest project, the valance which provides dust protection and will house the lighting.
The valance from the inside, showing the white painted interior.
A little switching activity at the future stamp mill. This is a scratchbuilt mine from the '70s that will be cannibalized for the stamp mill and a separate mine head.
