Do Your Own = =93Instant=20 Replay=94

Since I was born and = raised in=20 Ohio, U.S.A.,  I have an embedded love for American Football.  Some things about football have changed over = the=20 years.  There are more games
with television = coverage,=20 longer seasons, and a few new rules.  There is one change = that stands out.  It incorporates the =93fans=94 into the = flow of any=20 game.  It is referred to as =93instant
replay.=94 =  It used=20 to be that the fans wondered the =93truth=94 of the =93official = call=94 based on=20 what
was seen only once, by everyone.  That is not = true=20 anymore.  Not for us or the official.  Now,
the = truth=20 of the game can be seen in slow motion and from many angles! =  The=20 most important
thing is that the officials make the = =93right=94 call=20 so that the game is as fair as possible.  

This = booklet=20 challenges you to view an =93instant replay=94 of the first = session of the =9340=20 Days of
Purpose=94 video by Rick Warren.  Literally = millions=20 have been made partakers of this =93event=94
in their = church or in a=20 home gathering.  You should do your own =93instant replay=94 = just as I=20
have done.  This booklet explains what I saw and = heard=20 through the first session of the
video.  It also = makes some=20 references to Warren=92s =93The Purpose-Driven=AE Life=94 book = (=93PDL=94). But if you love the Lord Jesus Christ of the gospel, make = sure you=92re=20 sitting down and
=93prayed up=94 when doing this. The = instant replay=20 you do may shock you.  


That Uneasy=20 Feeling

In many instances, = the =9340 Days=20 of Purpose=94 Campaign is a church-wide event.  It will take = over all other priorities.  In the fall of 2003 the = leader of=20 the small group my wife and I were
attending asked us to = switch=20 from what we were studying to =93the campaign.=94 We agreed and =
a few=20 other people joined our group.  And although I was in the = middle of=20 teaching a Sunday
school class on a book of the Bible it = was=20 interrupted by =93the campaign=94 also. In fact, all
Sunday school=20 classes were essentially told by the leadership that they were = expected to=20
teach the material that corresponded to =93the = campaign=92s=94 topic=20 during their class time.  The
small groups were also = expected to meet during the week to view a video session, go = through a workbook and discuss the topic.  Since I was committed = to my=20 class and the church I
jumped in with limited knowledge = of Rick=20 Warren or Saddleback church which he pastors.  I
quickly=20 realized that my commitment to the campaign soon became a struggle = and=20 then an
absolute shock.

My uneasy feeling came = when I=20 began to look at the pre-program materials to prepare for my class.  As I read through the literature, I remember = telling my=20 wife that I had a very =93uneasy
feeling=94 about what = was to happen.=20  This uneasy feeling turned out to be God=92s way of
making me=20 pay close attention.  Thank God.=20  




The Thief on the=20 Cross

During the first = night of the=20 campaign, the church leadership provided for those who had
=93new=94=20 or =93un-churched=94 people in their groups to attend a =93mass=94 = gathering in=20 the church=92s
gymnasium.  The purpose was to view = the first=20 session of Rick Warren=92s video which
introduces the = program into=20 the church.  The leaders, along with many others, highly anticipated this event.  Because my small group leader = had=20 invited some people from outside
the church, we wanted to = attend=20 this event. The gymnasium had tables and chairs set up and
it was=20 packed.  In addition, others were to meet in their normal = small=20 groups at various homes
either that night or during the = week to=20 view the video.  

Although I had previously received = some of=20 the materials for preparation of my Sunday
school class, = I had=20 not received the actual =9340 Days=94 video tape which was for the = leader of=20
the small group.  Therefore, I could not review it=20 beforehand.  I assumed that the pastoral
staff as = well as=20 the elected leadership of the church had reviewed it.  The = first=20 session of the
tape on =93living with purpose=94 ended = with Warren=20 leading people in a prayer.  In the prayer he
asked = them to=20 =93open their life=94 to the =93Lord.=94  He then = congratulated people for=20 praying with
him and welcomed them into =93the family of = God.=94 I=20 made eye contact with my wife.  I will never
forget = the look=20 on her face.  We were in complete shock.  We realized = there was=20 one slight
problem.  He had failed to mention in the = presentation that people are sinners in need of a
Savior = and that=20 God sent His Son, Jesus, to shed His blood at Calvary, who then = rose=20 again!  
He did not mention any of these concepts = during the=20 presentation, the prayer, or the follow-
up comments! =  We=20 eagerly waited to see if our pastor of evangelism, who was leading = the session, would share the true and complete gospel.  We = never=20 heard it.  Certainly there
would very quickly be=20 clarification from the pulpit?  We never heard it.  On = the=20 contrary, there
was great excitement that a large number = of=20 people had =93prayed the prayer!=94  

There were three = crosses at=20 the scene of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ: one thief on each = side of Jesus.  Over the years, I have often thought = about the=20 thief on the one side of Jesus
during the crucifixion and = the=20 wonderful salvation that became his that day as he died beside
the Lord of the universe!  Do you remember his = interaction with=20 the other thief?  He knew
they had done things to = warrant=20 being put to death.  But he knew Jesus had done nothing wrong!  Do you remember what he said to the other thief? =  =93Don=92t you fear God?=94   Yet, in our
very church=20 building that evening someone on a video screen spoke about = Christ, never=20
mentioning that middle cross or that Jesus had to be = crucified=20 for redemption to be
accomplished.  The message that = was=20 spoken was portrayed as the gospel and invited
people = into the=20 =93family of God.=94  Millions of people, including pastors, = have seen=20 this =9340
Days of Purpose=94 video.  If you have = left out the=20 fact that Jesus Christ had to die on Calvary
for the sins = of the=20 world, and you have allowed those who listened to a different = =93gospel=94 believe they are now =93children of God,=94 I would ask all = of us =96 Do we=20 not fear God?!  Can we
call ourselves Christians =96 = true=20 Christians?  


When Ministry comes = looking for=20 you!

I=20 realized that night that I had been placed into a social setting = where I=20 would have looked like
an absolute idiot and totally out = of place=20 to stand up and say what should have been said. It
would = have=20 been totally out of place. Or would it?  =93According to the = Apostle=20 Paul - that was a
different =93gospel=94 message and it = will not make=20 anyone a member of the family of God.  If the
Apostle Paul=20 were here today he would very quickly and abruptly interrupt this = session=20 within
the framework of the authority he had as an = apostle of=20 Jesus Christ and explain that people
were misled to = receive=20 something that is not Biblical truth.=94  It is becoming = increasingly=20
apparent to me that American =93evangelicals=94 have come = to the=20 place where they/we are so
passive, timid, and = uncommitted to=20 Jesus Christ that there is a willingness to sit in a church
and=20 by silence bear witness to a =93gospel=94 that is different than = the one in=20 Scripture.  How
absolutely deceptive and tragic!=20  

My mind raced to the text in Revelation where Jesus = is=20 called =93The Faithful and True
Witness=94 and I knew I = had not been=20 a true and faithful witness of His.  And of course no one
else in the church had been a real witness that night either. =  Absolutely no one!  How could
we!  God = placed a=20 yoke on me of His making that night.  It was in the form of a = question.  
Would I be a true and faithful witness to = the=20 real Jesus of the real gospel no matter the
situation? =  That=20 is not very complicated but quite powerful (Romans 1:16) according = to=20 Paul.  
=93Therefore do not be ashamed of the = testimony of our=20 Lord, or of me His prisoner; but join
with me in = suffering for=20 the gospel according to the power of God.=94  (II Timothy 1:8 = - NASB)=20  
This admonition is for all the saints through the = corridors=20 of time, no matter the culture or the
condition. =  =93Join with=20 me,=94 Paul says.  Will you?  Will you stop saying = it=92s the =93job=94=20 of someone
else?  Will you quit believing that you = pay your=20 pastor to do it for you?  Will you quit trusting
that=20 someone else in your =93evangelical=94 church is doing it? =  Instead, will=20 you actually listen
and expect the true gospel to be = spoken and=20 borne witness to in your church?  And will you
expect your=20 pastor to be lovingly and mercifully and truthfully = straightforward about=20 the truth
of the gospel?  And will you support him = in that=20 endeavor for the sake of the souls that both
he and you = say that=20 you love?  The Apostle Paul demanded that the true gospel = should be=20
preached. =93But even though we, or an angel from heaven, = should=20 preach to you a gospel
contrary to that which we have = preached to=20 you, let him be accursed.=94 (Galatians 1:8 -=20 NASB)


Good Stewardship or=20 Confiscation?

My trek through the = =9340 Days=94=20 was filled with landmines.  I won=92t bother you with the = details. Let=92s just say that although I followed the outlined topics = for each=20 week I made adjustments.  
Since our group leader was = experiencing an illness, he asked me to lead the weekly home Bible study session as well.  So we did not watch = Warren=92s video=20 tape in our small group.  I
did not bother to tell = anyone=20 why at this point.  (What a sneak!)  I did not sign the=20 =93covenant=94
with a partner and Rick Warren on page 13 = of the PDL=20 book nor did I ask anyone in our
group to do so. =  There is=20 no Scriptural precedence for this! In fact Jesus teaches against = it in Matthew 5:33-37. As it ended up, shortly thereafter, when I = had=20 finished my current
commitment to the Sunday school class = we left=20 the church.  

In leaving I had a private conversation = with the=20 pastor.  I suppose for many people this may
end up = being=20 quite revealing in nature.  A person may not realize exactly = how=20 their pastor
really thinks unless there is a penetrating=20 conversation.  One thing is for sure, you should
never=20 =93assume=94 you know.  This is not for the faint of heart = but sometimes=20 is quite
necessary.  I would suppose some may end up = finding=20 that their pastor would rather not have
=93overly verbal = Christians=20 committed to truth=94 in their church.  It may =93disrupt=94 = things.=20  

After the =9340 Days=94 campaign the church = requested we turn in=20 the video tapes of the
sessions.  I don=92t know how = many did=20 this.  But what should have been something which
would seem=20 =93normal=94 had now become a =93confiscation=94 of the evidence, = so to speak.=20  
Individuals in the church could not look back and = review=20 the tapes to see what =93gospel=94 had
actually been = presented in the=20 first session of the tape.  According to Rick Warren on page = 210 of his PDL, he says in regards to our mind that = =93Whatever gets=20 your attention will get
you.=94  He was correct in = this one=20 thing.  That night in our church and various homes throughout our community, Rick Warren got our attention. =  But it=20 was with an unbiblical
presentation of the =93gospel=94 = and many=20 didn=92t even know!  What a spell had been=20 cast!


Avoiding the Cross = yet coming=20 to Faith

So how is it that in = the 21st=20 century =93church=94 we have come to the place where we can fail = to even mention the cross of Jesus Christ in a gospel = presentation!?=20  Not only that, but most
importantly we fail to even = hear=20 that it happened!!!  How is it that people can come to = =93faith=94 through a message both proclaimed and evidently believed that = is not=20 the Biblical gospel???  
(Read I Corinthians 15:3-4 = for the=20 synopsis of the gospel Paul preached.)  A few
undercurrent=20 reasons come to mind.

My pastor=20 said!=20  It is all well and good that a pastor seeks that profession = if they=20 are called of
God to do so.  But that does not mean = we=20 acquiesce our own obligation to make sure we are
hearing = the Word=20 of God.  We must depend on God telling us truth from His = Word, the=20 Holy
Bible.  Therefore, we must depend on God = leading us to=20 a pastor who teaches from the Bible
and helps us to = interface=20 with it.  Everyone needs continual illumination with truth = from the=20
Word.  But some pastors have abandoned this = authority for=20 man-made programs and non-
biblical tradition and = teachings.=20  Many pastors today are taking their people through = =93books=94 from their pulpit and I am not talking about books of the = Bible.=20  I am talking about books
people have written. =  Why=20 isn=92t the truth preached from the Bible?  If a pastor gets = in a=20 pulpit
and shares from another man=92s work then it is = not his work=20 in deep study and prayer before
God!  Does your = employer pay=20 you to do your work or to let somebody else do it? And the command of Scripture to any shepherd is: PREACH THE WORD. =  The=20 process of using
another man=92s work can slowly wean us = from the=20 authority of the Holy Scriptures. I have
heard of some = pastors=20 spending six months preaching from another man=92s book from the = pulpit.   Do you see that there is something wrong = with=20 this picture?  Good books written by
the saints of = God are=20 =93treats=94 that God gives us for our blessing and encouragement. =  ONLY=20
THE WORD IS THE MAIN MEAL FOR THE SAINTS - FROM BOTH A = PULPIT=20 PREACHED
AND A PERSONAL DILIGENT STUDY!!!=20  

The important thing = is to just=20 have faith!  No =96 the = important thing=20 is the object of the faith
that you have.  For a = Christian=20 the object of our faith is the Lord Jesus Christ of the gospel. =  It is He that can save through His gospel preached and = received and=20 therefore the Bible says
that the gospel is the power of = God unto=20 salvation (Romans 1:16).  In other words, your faith
is not=20 the power of God unto salvation.  The gospel is.  Faith = in the=20 real Jesus Christ of the
real gospel is the only = =93faith=94 that can=20 save. A gospel or Jesus =93invented=94 different from the
Lord Jesus=20 Christ can not save.  True Biblical faith is the instrument = wherein=20 we believe and
trust the real Lord Jesus Christ who saves = sinners.

All of these people can=92t be wrong!  Oh yes = they can.=20  I repeat =96 yes they can!  Thousands
and = thousands of=20 people believed that their money would be safe in Enron and = WorldCom stock a few years back (this idiot included). How did that = turn out?=20  Enron and WorldCom filed
for bankruptcy and all of = us=20 =93common folk=94 lost the majority of our money.  Did our = =93sincere faith=94 in the bogus financial reports of the company = protect our=20 investment?  No. Thousands
of people believed they = were=20 simply going to enjoy a simple, lovely vacation on beaches and
lands adjacent to the Indian Ocean during Christmas of 2004.=20  And that belief turned into an
awful tragedy via an = oceanic=20 earthquake and the tsunami that followed!  They couldn=92t = have possibly seen it coming, but it did.  It used to be that = literally hundreds of thousands of
people believed that = the=20 company that employed them would never lay them off or curtail
their retirement benefits!  Wrong!  Once again, = faith never=20 finds its benefit in =93having=94 faith.  
The = greatness of=20 =93faith=94 is in the trustworthiness of the object to which it is = directed=20 and that
alone.

The gospel only=20 unites!=20  No, the gospel both unites and divides.  It is both a = wonderful=20
fragrance for those who believe and a stench for those = who=20 reject.  We want it to only unite
and have a = wonderful=20 fragrance. Because if it =93divides=94 or has a =93stench=94 it = means we must suffer for it.  Our excuse is that we are afraid of = being=20 misunderstood.  But in looking at our
culture and = the lack=20 of impact of the gospel it would seem to me only one conclusion = can be drawn.  We are afraid of actually being understood. =  We=20 kind of like the accolades of men.  
Paul did not. =  And=20 he said so.  (Galatians 1:10)  But we will not do what = Paul did.=20  It is
because of us the gospel has been = watered-down in our=20 culture!  And if the gospel has
become so = watered-down=20 through a lack of proclamation and defense of that gospel and willingness to suffer for it =96 the results can not only be = seen in=20 our culture, it can be seen in
our churches. =  

Do you=20 know that believers are no longer believers in our present = circumstance?=20  For
example, did you know that a recent Barna study = in 2005=20 (barna.org) showed that =9328% of
born-agains agree that = =91while he=20 lived on earth, Jesus committed sins, like other people.=92=94
What???  The first and immediate question should be: of = what=20 =93spirit=94 was someone =93born-
again=94 since the = Spirit who breathed=20 out the Holy Scriptures bears witness to a sinless Lord
Jesus=20 Christ?  Who is their perfect sacrifice for their sin before = a Holy=20 God?  And what do
you think pastors should do with = such=20 information?  To offset this culture of compromise
shouldn=92t=20 a pastor go to the elders of his church and inform them of this = situation?=20  And
proceed to tell them that it may be appropriate = to=20 =93take a stand=94 and preach a message on
the absolute = centrality of=20 the sinless nature of the Son of God?  And should he not = expect the elders to support him in this endeavor, realizing there = may be=20 consequences in
preaching this kind of message? =  Guarding=20 the gospel and our witness to that gospel is worth
it! =  And=20 shouldn=92t he request that any in the church who hold to a = contrary belief,=20 repent of
their sin?  Wouldn=92t it just be = =93awful=94 if we=20 offended them with the cross of Christ?  NO!  
Because=20 the real Spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ should insist they are = offended=20 by the truth
because it is their only hope.  If the = heart of=20 a person has not been opened to gospel truth
over a = period of=20 time it may be because they have not been offended by the gospel.=20  

But, unfortunately, many pastors have decided that = they can=20 not grow their church by simple
preaching of and = obedience to the=20 truth.  And if that is the case, we have been drawn into
the=20 process of building our church =96 not Christ=92s Church.  In = ministry we=20 are supposed to
seek the blessing of God and not the = =93blessing=94=20 we can manipulate for ourselves.  The
blessings of = the=20 Spirit=92s power and presence only come in preaching truth! =  If you are=20 a
leader or laymen within your church and you place = requirements=20 upon your shepherd that
are not Biblical requirements = only, you=20 are in sin.  You should immediately repent and seek
God in=20 prayer. The results of not doing this are now being seen in many = churches.=20  Many
believers have pointed out to their pastor or = leaders=20 the incredible fact that a different gospel
is presented = through=20 the first session of the =9340 Days=94 video.  And then they = are the ones=20
being ostracized while no one else even noticed! =  This fact=20 is the result of a long road of
compromising decisions = about how=20 to =93do church=94 man=92s way and not God=92s way.=20     


So You Want a=20 Sign!

For a number of years = now there=20 has been a =93movement,=94 first called =93signs and wonders,=94 =
and more=20 recently known as =93the third wave.=94 It has captured the = attention of many.=20  It
promises =93power=94 in our evangelizing because = God will=20 perform =93signs=94 in the midst of our
preaching and = teaching.=20  Much of the teachings, practices and even many songs from = this movement have =93infiltrated=94 many of our historically = evangelical=20 churches.  The movement
promises deliverance of the = Spirit.=20  And certainly God should give us a sign that He is in it.=20  

Well =96 we=92ve got our sign folks!  We now = sit in=20 churches watching a man on a screen, who
=93forgets=94 to = =93mention=94=20 that Jesus Christ had to go to Calvary and what that means - but = still tells people they are now evidently a part of the family of = God and=20 headed toward heaven.  
And they believe it. =  And we=20 didn=92t even hear that it is not the Biblical gospel!  WHAT = A SIGN!=20  
And guess what?  It is a sign!  Not the = sign we=20 wanted - but it is a sign.  It is the sign of God
departing.=20  It is the sign of apostasy reigning and ruling in the hearts = of=20 people. It is the sign
of minds being mesmerized while = eyes are=20 being dazzled. It is the sign of Jesus Christ Himself
now = standing outside the door of the very church itself =96 requesting = access =96=20 while it does its=92
own brand of =93evangelism.=94 =  It is the=20 sign of ears and hearts having become calloused to the
gospel=20 and/or seduced by worldly things.  

Leaders of this = =93movement=94=20 now insist that they are new apostles and prophets of the final = move of God upon the earth. They say that God is now speaking = beyond=20 and outside the
teachings of the Scriptures, claiming = that the=20 Holy Spirit is behind it all!  Do you know that
God = is=20 behind it?  But not like you might think.  He is in = sovereign=20 control just like He said in
II Thessalonians 2.  It is = just not=20 as we had expected.

=93Now we request you, brethren, with = regard to=20 the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our
gathering = together=20 to Him, that you may not be quickly shaken=85to the effect that = the day of=20
the Lord has come=85for it will not come unless the = apostasy comes=20 first, and the man of
lawlessness is revealed, the son of = destruction=85And then that lawless one will be
revealed=85the one=20 whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all = power and=20
signs and false wonders,  and with all the deception = of=20 wickedness for those who perish,
because they did not = receive the=20 love of the truth so as to be saved.  And for this reason
God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they = might=20 believe what is false, in
order that they all may be = judged who=20 did not believe the truth=85=94  
II Thessalonians 2:1-12=20 (NASB)

Many important things shared in the above text might = be=20 coming true in our day =96 it just
depends if this is the = very end=20 of this present evil age.  However, there is one fact that I = would like to point out.  There is =93spiritual power=94 = behind=20 =93spiritual deception.=94  Unfortunately,
many = believe that if=20 something seems =93supernatural=94 or is =93successful=94 then it = must be God.=20  
This is not correct thinking.  The TRUTH of = God has=20 God=92s supernatural power behind it.  
Satan = exercises his=20 control over =93this present evil age=94 (Galatians 1:4) through = =93the=20 rulers,
=85powers,=85world forces of this darkness,=85the = spiritual=20 forces of wickedness in the heavenly
places.=94 = (Ephesians 6:12 -=20 NASB)  All of that =93power=94 that is his comes with the = intent of his=20
=93lies=94 being received and embraced as if they were = =93truths.=94=20 Being an angel of light and god
of this present evil age, = Satan=20 can be very =93successful=94 at what he does from a worldly perspective.  The devil=92s purpose is to give you = =93his version of=20 the truth=94 which is actually a
lie.  The Bible = says the=20 whole world is under the power of evil (I John 5:19).  It = also says=20 that
Satan blinds the minds of unbelievers (II = Corinthians 4:4).=20  His ability to deceive us in our
innermost being is = the=20 worst kind of lie that any human can =93receive.=94  People = are offended=20 if
lied to by another person. Yet we are not offended = when the=20 devil lies to us.  It is because we
don=92t = =93catch=94=20 him!

The only way this dynamic deception can be = circumvented is by=20 the Spirit of God ministering
to us through the Word of = God.=20  Unfortunately, many Christians believe that because they
are =93Christians=94 God has somehow waved a magic wand of = protection=20 over them and all is
okay.  Yes, God does protect = us!=20  But His protection does not allow us to continue in naivete.  He has given us His Word to protect us! =  We must=20 employ it.  If we do not employ
this =93weapon of = choice=94 we=20 will not have the sufficient protection.  We must carefully = study and apply God=92s Word.  This is how the Spirit = ministers to us.=20  Furthermore, God=92s Word
judges us and not vice = versa:=20  

=93The Word of God is living and active and sharper = than any=20 two-edged sword, and piercing
as far as the division of = soul and=20 spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the
thoughts=20 and intentions of the heart.  And there is no creature hidden = from=20 His sight, but all

An Exercise in Truth = and=20 Futility

It is interesting = what I have=20 found as I have shared with various people my experience with
the=20 =9340 Days=94 tape.  Many are amazed and almost speechless. =  Yet=20 they realize its
dangerous implications.  As a = result, they=20 clearly wish to avoid interaction with anything that
has = to do=20 with the Purpose-Driven=AE phenomenon. Others sort of listen but = really=20 don=92t think
this will =93touch=94 them.  Unless = they are=20 =93convinced,=94 they continue to live in their own little
private=20 world. But I believe they are wrong.  It is becoming such a = large=20 part of the =93Christian=94
culture that it can not help = but touch=20 them.  I have asked some people to look at the tape. =  And it would seem they actually choose to ignore it instead = of face=20 it!!!

Such is the power of deception!  If what is fed = to you=20 can be controlled or manipulated =96
(even if it is = yourself!) you=20 can remain enamored.  Real issues are avoided and only a = certain version of =93truth=94 is believed!  And if there are = spirits behind=20 deception, they will only give you
what they know they = can get=20 away with!!!  They are called =93deceiving spirits=94 for a = reason.=20  
Thus, in your dealings with these issues you will = probably=20 experience what I have
experienced =96 an exercise in = both=20 encouragement and discouragement.


The Message of=20 Truth

Warren, in presenting = his=20 gospel, is actually presenting an =93avatar of purpose=94 who he = calls =93the Lord.=94  (Avatar: =93an embodiment as of a = concept or=20 philosophy in a person.=94)   The
message is: = =93you don=92t=20 have purpose, but by opening yourself up to a divine design, you = can now have purpose for your life.=94  But Jesus came to = deliver you=20 from your sin =96 to be
converted. The problem is that a = person=20 influenced by =93new age thinking=94 or =93feelings of
emptiness=94 or=20 =93lack of purpose=94 would be more than happy to =93open = themselves=94 to this=20
=93divine=94 information:  without conversion! =  Paul=92s=20 thinking in Ephesians is NOT that you can
have divine = purpose by=20 opening up your life to it.  It is that you receive the = gospel=20 message,
the message of truth and are made a new creature = in=20 Christ Jesus!  Then proclaiming and/or
bearing = witness to=20 that GOSPEL message becomes your =93purpose=94 just as it was the = apostles=92 goal!   

The apostle=92s = =93goal=94 was not=20 =93having a purpose,=94 the apostle=92s =93goal=94 was preaching = the
gospel=20 that saves!  Warren doesn=92t get it or doesn=92t see the = difference.=20 Thus, in the first
session of =9340 Days=94 he doesn=92t=20 deliver!

It is supposed to be redemption first and only! =  We=20 can=92t get =93in Christ=94 by desiring purpose!  
We = are placed=20 =93in Christ=94 when we are redeemed from our sins!  It is = Jesus who does=20 that.  


Warren=92s = =93Gospel=94 in=20 PDL

Warren states on page = 58 (just=20 before he leads a prayer) that =93it=92s time to settle this = issue.  Who are you (emphasis mine) = going to live=20 for =96 yourself or God?=94  That is not nor ever will
be the=20 issue in anyone looking upon the Lord Jesus Christ of Calvary! The = issue=20 and word of
the cross is how can sinful creatures be = accepted=20 before a Holy God!  This word of the cross
is the = only=20 reconciling sacrifice for a bunch of rebels! You and I cannot as = fallen=20 creatures
live to the glory of God!!!  That is why = Jesus had=20 to die!!!  It would seem Warren negates
through his = teaching=20 the very thing that the cross of Jesus Christ actually means!!!=20  (This
determination or self-will is also seen in = the first=20 session of the video tape where he says,
=93What you do = with your=20 life on earth will determine where you spend eternity.=94) =  It is only=20 after
we are =93born again=94 via the redemption that is = in Christ=20 Jesus that we are enabled to live to
the glory of God. =  And=20 as Paul says in Ephesians chapter 1 that we are then =93to the = praise of His glory=94 because of HIS ABILITY TO GLORIFY HIS OWN HOLY = NAME IN=20 SAVING US!!!  But
we cannot glorify God in any way = until=20 this happens.

We can confirm that this is how Warren thinks = by=20 looking at the previous page.  On page 57
He says, = =93Jesus=20 stood at a fork in the road.  Would he fulfill his purpose = and bring=20 glory to
God, or would he shrink back and live a = comfortable,=20 self-centered life?  You face the same
choice.=94 = When I first=20 read this text the question that immediately came into my mind was = =93who=20
does Warren think that Jesus is?=94

First, was = Jesus only a=20 man like us?  Could He only live to the glory of God or was = it also=20
possible that He could not? Is the person being described = here=20 incarnate deity or something
less?  As the Lord of = the=20 universe, was He even capable of =93shrinking back?=94 Had he ever = before =93shrunk back and lived a comfortable self-centered = life=94?=20  And now because he goes
to the cross it proves he = hasn=92t=20 shrunk back this time? And what makes Warren think that
Jesus=20 could =93shrink back and live a self-centered life=94 at any time = or that=20 Jesus ever had such
thoughts in his head? =  

Second,=20 it is impossible for people to live to the glory of God like Jesus = did!=20  Do not think that
you can!  The Lord Jesus = Christ is=20 totally unique from us in that He was and is incarnate
deity.=20  Forever!!!  Whether one who reads this is a Christian = already=20 or not =96 Warren=92s
message is about you making a false = identification with incarnate deity by thinking you can
live to=20 the glory of God like Jesus.

This is NOT the gospel = =93decision.=94=20  Jesus Christ went to Calvary for your redemption!  He = was not a =93way-shower=94 upon the cross. His death on the cross = was not his=20 example to us so that
we in and of ourselves can also = live to=20 God=92s glory!  It wasn=92t for inspiration =96 it was for = redemption!!!  He was the perfect offering for sinners = =96 because=20 we are guilty before a Holy
God.  An atoning blood = sacrifice=20 had to be made.  He did not hang upon the cross so that
you=20 could look at Him and say, =93Wow, I want to live for God too =96 = just like He=20 did.=94  The
message of the cross is not a refocused = old life=20 but Him sacrificing His life =96 which apart from
Him we = do not=20 possess.  His redemption is so you will look at Calvary with = a broken=20 spirit and
new God-given heart.  Then you can = joyfully sing=20 of God=92s mercy and love in redeeming you,
=93He bore = the dreaded=20 curse for my soul.=94  It was the clear demonstration of = God=92s=20 reconciling
love in His freely giving His Son to redeem = sinners.=20  It was and is His demonstration of grace:
un-obligated,=20 undeserved and non-repayable grace.

Unfortunately, if the = cross is=20 robbed both of its=92 true meaning and the true nature of the = God-man, the Lord Jesus Christ who hung there, it is also robbed = of its=92=20 power to save.


The Call of the=20 Gospel

The call of the = gospel is not=20 =93open thyself up.=94  This is the term/concept Warren uses = when he leads people in the prayer of decision in the video. =  =93Lord,=20 I don=92t understand it all, but as
best as I know how, I = open=20 myself up=85=94  The gospel is about a message being received = as the message of truth.  We may not fully understand the=20 implications =96 but truth is proclaimed
and to some = measure=20 understood and received as truth.  The nature of this call is = seen in=20 a
few key Scripture passages.  We will start with = the first=20 sermon preached after the day of
Pentecost:

=93Therefore let=20 all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him = both Lord=20 and
Christ =96 this Jesus whom you crucified.=94 =  Now when they=20 heard this, they were pierced to the
heart, and said to = Peter and=20 the rest of the apostles, =93Brethren, what shall we do?=94 =  And Peter said to them, =93Repent, and let each of you be = baptized in the=20 name of Jesus Christ for
the forgiveness of your sins; = and you=20 shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  For the promise = is for you and your children, and for all who are far off, as = many as=20 the Lord our God shall
call to Himself.=94  And with = many=20 other words he solemnly testified and kept exhorting them, saying, =93Be saved from this perverse generation!=94 =  So then,=20 those who had received his word
were baptized; and there = were=20 added that day about three thousand souls.  And they were
continually devoting themselves to the apostles=92 teaching = and to=20 fellowship, to the breaking of
bread and to prayer.=94 = Acts 2:36-42=20 (NASB)

I want you to simply notice four things about this = passage=20 of Scripture:

1. The call of the gospel is one of = promise.
It is=20 God Himself who sent His Son Jesus Christ to be crucified for us = and to=20 send the
promised Holy Spirit.  God makes a covenant = with us=20 =96 not vice versa!
2. The call of the gospel is one of=20 repentance.
=93Repent=94 Peter says.  Change your mind = about God=92s=20 provision and your condition (sin). This
repentance is = clearly=20 evidenced in the conviction they had from the Spirit of God = because it says they were =93pierced to the heart=94.
3. The call of = the gospel=20 is one of belief.
They received the word that was spoken. =  They=20 believed the truth of the message in their
own = hearts.
4. The=20 call of the gospel is one of obedience.
Their true = understanding of and=20 receiving of the promise, their belief and their repentance is
clearly evident in their obeying God.

They didn=92t = say =93I don=92t=20 understand=94 (like Warren=92s prayer). They clearly were made to = understand by the ministry of the Spirit as the Word was = preached!=20  To help us confirm this
message in our own minds = and hearts=20 =96 let=92s take a look at some passages of Scripture from
the hand=20 of the Apostle Paul and the Apostle John.

Paul says that he = was=20 =93set apart for the gospel of God, which He promised beforehand = through His prophets in the holy Scriptures, concerning His = Son, who=20 was born of a
descendant of David according to the flesh, = who was=20 declared the Son of God with power by
the resurrection = from the=20 dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord, = through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring = about=20 the obedience of faith
among all the Gentiles, for His = name=92s=20 sake, among whom you also are the called of Jesus
Christ;=94 Romans=20 1:1-6 (NASB)

John said =93they blasphemed the name of God = who has the=20 power over these plagues; and
they did not repent so as = to give=20 Him glory.=94 Revelation 16:9 (NASB)

Paul further states = =93I did not=20 shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and
teaching you publicly and from house to house, solemnly = testifying to=20 both Jews and Greeks
of repentance toward God and faith = in our=20 Lord Jesus Christ.=94 Acts 20:20-21 (NASB)

These texts = present the=20 same four thematic elements that were given in Acts 2: promise, = repentance, faith, obedience.  These elements are made = clear in=20 the texts.



In=20 Summary

Have you repented and = trusted=20 the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior!  I mean - really? =  Is He=20
the reason you can now live to the glory of the gospel = and to the=20 glory of God =96 because as
the living Lord - He saved = you?=20  Have you believed and received the truth of the gospel? =  I hope that you have.  You can=92t save yourself on your = own nor=20 live to the glory of God.

I hope and pray that you will = complete=20 your own =93instant replay=94 of the first session = of
Warren=92s =9340 Days.=94=20  After you watch the tape and realize that what I have told = you is=20
absolutely true, please remember this: the Holy Spirit = never=20 administrates a different gospel
as if it can save. =  Never!=20  No matter what it =93seemed=94 was happening through the = message delivered, if a different gospel was received in people=92s = hearts it=20 was not the Holy Spirit of
Truth who delivered it! =  And=20 because of this it is incredible that anyone would dare to then = tell people they are a part of the =93family of God=94 based on = this =93gospel.=94=20  

But Paul says that it is in the =93foolishness=94 of = the gospel=20 preached that God saves.

As has been the custom of what the saints have faced = through=20 the ages it is possible that we
are in the minority and = the true=20 gospel is at stake.  Not only is it at stake in the = non-churched culture, it is at stake in our own =93evangelical=94 = churches!  Get=20 ready!  The signs are all around
us. This may be the = last=20 time we will be able to be true and faithful witnesses as the = people of=20
God!  I hope this little booklet doesn=92t find you = sitting on=20 a fence somewhere.

=93And they overcame him because of the = blood of=20 the Lamb and because of the word of their
testimony, and = they did=20 not love their life even to death.=94   Revelation 12:11 = (NASB)
