The future looks hopeful. Two steps forward,
one step back
?

or
One step forward
and two steps back?

What is going on? Last night I was, well, giddy with excitement over the election of Barack Obama as our new President. Many of us think we've witnessed a turning point in our culture that is long overdue. As well, with the switch in power to the Democrats, I am hopeful the horror of the last eight years can begin to heal and we can once again display ourselves as a nation that cares rather than one that fears.

That said, today my elation is cut out from under me as California residents passed an amazing bit of hatred in the name of "Restoring Marriage and Protecting California Children". I kid you not. That is a slogan on their website! Who are these people? And what are they so afraid of? And this thing they call "traditional marriage", what is that? By today's standard, that would be a man and a woman who 50% of the time divorce each other. And for the children caught in the middle of  a breakup, the damage of a divorce can be devastating. Where is the protection there? And let's not leave out those folks who spout their faith in Jesus as the foundation for their bigotry while unable to see just how hypocritical they are in their lives. As a Christian, I thank God for websites like Whosoever Magazine, DignityUSA and Gaychurch.org that express the Love that Jesus preached for EVERYONE, not just for a select group.

With the national election, we moved a step closer to being a country of people - not divided groups. I pray for a day that we are all called simply Americans without the need for a prefix to the title. As well, I look forward to a time when church and marriage do not discriminate in fear and hatred, but are both respected for the Love they display to each other and  the world. Until then, it is a great day for the United States but a sad day for California and the rights for people to simply Love and be treated equally in their partnering. I've said enough. I hope it made sense.

Big Bad AyersClearing the Ayers

I can't take this any more. How ridiculous can politics get? And just how stupid are we that these kinds of things actually work on some of us?

Just a couple thoughts. Bill Ayers. If this old man is such a terrorist threat to our nation, why isn't he locked away in prison rather than working for a large mid-west college? If he's not in jail, it must be that he's paid for any past wrong doings and we should be hearing forgiveness rather than fear from the right-wing fundamentalists that spout their righteous views so much. Shut up! Get over it! And discuss things that really matter.

So funny I can't resist commenting.

Okay - so this may be in bad taste to some, but I just think this is hilarious on so many levels. First off is the functionality of the hip-hop clothing style. I've long enjoyed seeing lads waddling down the streets with their asses hanging out of their droopy drawers.

So today, there is video of a yute trying to evade arrest while also doing his best to keep his pants on. This alone had me in stitches. And though I may question the use of the taser in this situation, the way the "bad guy" froze up and toppled over had me laughing so hard the tears were flowing down my beet red cheeks. Rick Flair couldn't have done a better fall than this guy.  Priceless.

Call me crass...but

So I keep hearing about how the Presidential candidates are "putting politics aside" to attend the 9/11 tribute in New York today. Sounds warm and fuzzy except that in the political realm I believe we call these things "photo-ops". How is that not being political?

BUCKETA Drop In The Bucket

"Go Green" is the latest catch phrase we hear everywhere (last year it was/is that ridiculous saying "at the end of the day...") but that's not what this is about.

1977 was an eventful year. I got married, Elvis died and we were in a "real energy crisis"; but I want to talk about the water. Heck - gas is even more an issue today than in the 70's, my marriage lasted less than 5 years and Elvis is still dead. What did stay with me was the drought of '76-78. We had to change how we lived. Water your lawn at night and only of specific days. No washing the car. Don't flush for #1 and put that brick in the tank. Five minute showers, recycle laundry water and more.

While I'm becoming more planet friendly with my garbage, it is the current drought that I'm tuned-in to. So today I share a little trick I learned from someone on TV. My shower takes FOREVER to get the hot water running. That's a lot of water down the drain. Solution? Let the initial water go into a bucket which can be used to water plants, mop the floor, shave from...the list goes on and on. I know my palm trees (that's what I call them and I'm sticking to it!) are loving this idea.

For those of you not living in drought conditions like we are in California, well, "at the end of the day" we could all do with some cutting back in our lives be it with water or gasoline. "I'm just sayin'."

"..everybody has an artist in them..."

I was in a shop today and someone came in looking for a karaoke cd of some song and a thought popped into my head. Put aside all those pre-conceived notions about drunk folks crooning to a Mariah Carey number. If there aren't enough people proving to a crowd that they can't sing a note, I wondered how the current population would continue the fine art of karaoke in the realm of hip-hop-on-pop.

I didn't have to search long (okay, I went straight to YouTube) and discovered that there is indeed an outlet for those who can't sing and love touching their crotches while yelling at whoever will listen to them. Kinda reminds me of poetry night at the coffee club.

Okay, so the beatnik link is to an old favorite called "Bucket of Blood". But the video here is great.I like the guy decked out telling us how everybody has an artist in them. That's what they thought of the artist known as Walter Paisley!

The Game Show is...

Regis is on the screen with 4 other people. Two are celebs; the others contestants. It is advertised as an updated version of the classic game show "Password" with Allen Ludden. What I see is a rehash of "The Pyramid" (take your pick of $20,000 or $100,000 - likewise Dick Clark or Donnie Osmond).

Viewers too young to remember the original might enjoy the show where everybody stands on a stage reminiscent of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire". But those of us who were hoping for the return of a personal fave will be sadly disappointed.

One moment please...

The other day I was trying to find out why our gas prices are going up and up and up. At first I thought perhaps the oil companies were behind it all so they could pressure the American people to allow drilling in the United States. But while listening to commentators and Congress people last week, a thought scarier than greedy business men came to mind. It was only a few people who managed to get George W. elected not only once but twice. I am very afraid of the Republican machine and how far they will go to get one of their own into the White House. Hearing the back and forth speeches on which candidate will drill locally or not sent shivers down my spine. Could the GOP leaders be behind this so they can get another 4 years to tear apart our Constitution? I wouldn't put it past them. Of course, I know very little about politics and how economics works, but this is my site and I can say whatever I want (until even that right is taken from us in the name of Homeland Security).
