

About the IMPD Emerald Society
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Emerald Society was founded in 2007 as one of over 80 Police Emerald Societies across the nation. The first was formed within the New York Police Department in 1953. The purpose of the IMPD Emerald Society is:
- To develop the spirit of fraternalism and fellowship amongst its members.
- To encourage active participation in community activities.
- To encourage and enhance professionalism within the law enforcement profession to better serve the community.
- To provide a family oriented social cultural atmosphere within the law enforcement community.
- To inculcate and preserve in its members the heritage of the Irish culture.
- To recognize and promote the accomplishments and contributions of our ancestors and fellow Irish-Americans.
- To promote positive public sentiment towards law enforcement.
- To aid and assist worthy or needy members (Active/Retired) which are in the best interest of the Society.
- To aid Active Member's families in the event of a line of duty death.
There are three types of memberships in the IMPD Emerald Society:

Active Membership. Open to all active sworn officers of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department who are of Irish, Scottish or Welsh (Celtic) descent.

Retired Membership. Open to all retired officers of IMPD, IPD and MCSD who are of Irish, Scottish or Welsh (Celtic) descent.

Associate Membership. Open to any person who does not qualify for Active or Retired membership and is sponsored by an Active or Retired member in good standing.

The annual dues are as follows:
Active and Associate Members annual dues are $25.
Retired Members annual dues are $15.
All members will receive quarterly newsletters from “The Shamrock”, the official publication of the IMPD Emerald Society. A Scholarship Fund is available to all members. Death Benefits are afforded to survivors of Active Members.

The IMPD Emerald Society has meetings every-other month and has an Annual Meeting in March.

There will be several Society functions throughout the year.

The IMPD Emerald Society is registered as a non-profit organization with the Internal Revenue Service and is incorporated in the State of Indiana.
