Profile

Janice Gagnon-Warr
RN, HNC, BA, CCAP, RA, CPP

Janice Gagnon-Warr is a Certified Holistic Registered Nurse and a Certified, Registered Clinical Aromatherapist. She is Southcoast Aromatherapy's principal instructor and has been an active, driving force in bringing complementary therapies to the Massachusetts nursing community since 1994. Responsible for bringing England's renowned Dr. Jane Buckle and her first aromatherapy certification program to New England, Janice was among the first group of certified and nationally registered nurse aromatherapists in the USA.
Dedicated to the advancement of aromatherapy as a safe, research-based nursing intervention, Janice was a member of the Massachusetts State Nursing Board's Advisory Ruling #9801 task force. This 1997 landmark ruling distinguished Massachusetts as the first state in the country to allow nurses to utilize complementary therapies, including aromatherapy, under the scope of acceptable nursing practice.
Additionally, Janice was a member of the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy's Education committee to create detailed curriculum standards for the education of qualified aromatherapists, as well as co-author for the "white paper" research for NAHA's Scope of Practice policy statement regarding safe dermal application of essential oils.
Through Janice's tireless efforts, aromatherapy policies have been developed at many Massachusetts health facilities, where nurses are daily utilizing essential oils within the context of their nursing practice.
In addition to her holistic nursing certification, Janice is board certified in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing since 1988 and a Certified Polarity Practitioner since 1984. She maintains a busy private Polarity/Aromatherapy practice in Dartmouth, Massachusetts and is a frequent guest lecturer at area schools, colleges, health care and wellness facilitites.

Products/Services

There are two levels of training within this modular program. Level 1 training is the prerequisite for Level 2 studies. It is recommended that classes be taken in order.

LEVEL 1:

Classes 1-6 are taken as an entry level course that meets the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy's Basic Foundation course. At this level, attendance at classes 1-6 and satisfactory completion of case studies are required to receive certificates of completion and Nursing contact hours. There are 18 live in-class hours and an additional 42 hours of independent study.
Level 1 training is geared towards those wishing to learn more about essential oils and their use in family or personal wellness.

Level 2:

Students may choose to continue on with Level 2 training by completing classes 7-15, which meets the NAHA required standards for Professional Aromatherapy Certification. In order to receive the Professional Aromatherapy Certificate as well as Nursing contact hours, students are required to attend classes 7-15, complete a research paper or project, reading assignments, additional case studies, and pass a practical assessment exam and a written, take-home final exam.
Level 2 students complete 27 live, in-class hours and an additional 150 hours of independent study.
This level is geared towards the licensed healthcare practitioner who wishes to enhance their established healthcare practice.

Optional Graduate Credentialing
Students who successfully complete Level 2 will be sufficiently prepared to sit for the Aromatherapy Registration Council (ARC) examination, which is offered by an independent testing corporation, (PTNY), twice a year. Successful ARC exam candidates will be allowed to use the credentials, "RA", Registered Aromatherapist, after their name.
