VR-3/VC-3 kit

These kits are no longer available..

This is a kit with all of the parts, except the cabinet, to build an NHT VC-3 or VR-3 speaker. It includes both 6.5" Peerless woofers, 5.25" Peerless midrange, 1" Seas tweeter, the completed crossover with cup, all tweeter mounting hardware including the heatsink and even the fiberglass needed for the midrange chamber. You supply MDF, a table saw and a bunch of wood glue. Included in the package below are complete cabinet drawings, renderings of the finished product, crossover schematic and five pages of notes with construction details.

X2 active crossover

This product is no longer available.

These are a brand new, 1 rack space active crossover. L, R and LFE input. L and R HP output (satellite), L and R LP output (subwoofer) . All inputs and outputs RCA and XLR. Continously variable subwoofer phase, unganged LP and HP filters, separate LFE gain control, rack mountable with optional rack ears. Very quite. This is a fantastic crossover. For detailed info, go to the NHT link below. The manual link below has a complete block diagram of the unit. Note: the subwoofer output HP frequency is actually 15Hz. THe spec sheet and manual are incorrect. The actual LP adjustment range is 30-220Hz, the photo below is of a prototype.

M-60 monitor speaker

These are a brand new, 6.5" 2-way speaker 100% complete except for the crossover. The woofer is a 6.5" Seas Excel driver with a dustcap instead of the phase plug and a shielding can added. It is essentially a modified Seas W18E. The addition of the dustcap allows the woofer to produce high output, low frequencies without any of the airleak problems that the phase plug creates. The tweeter is a ferrofluid cooled 1" aluminum Seas unit. These drivers are super low distortion. The cabinet is constructed of super thick MDF with nonparallel walls. There are huge radii on the baffles edges around the tweeter to smooth give a super clean impulse response. The wide baffle around the tweeter and the narrow baffle around the woofer gives the speaker a super wide and even frequency response. There is a terminal plate on the back of the cabinet with four sockets spaced on 3/4" centers, designed to fit standard dual banna plugs. All you need to do is build the crossover or program a DSP audio processor for it. Below is a package with a complete set of acoustic, electrical measurements and even a passive crossover design. You can plug this data into your speaker modeling software to design your own crossover if you desire to. The NHT product page below has dimensional information.

S-80 subwoofer

These are a brand new, long throw dual 12" subwoofer with a 500W internal amplifier. Very low distortion. Less than 0.3% above 45Hz at 97dB at 1M. Aluminum cone woofers with 2" diameter voice coils, 12mm Xmax, dual aluminum shorting rings and a cross shaped pole piece. The amplifier has only an XLR input and a +/-10dB volume adjust. The subwoofer has a -3dB point of about 45Hz with a 12dB/octave roll off below that. IT REQUIRES some external EQ to be useable as a subwoofer. You can EQ it to be flat down to 40Hz, 30Hz, 20Hz, whatever you want. This is just a function of the EQ that you have. The upper frequency cutoff is around 150Hz. The NHT product page below has dimensional information. Many of the specifications on the NHT website are only applicable when the S-80 is used with the XdA, so they do not apply in this case.

M-20 monitor speaker

This product is no longer available.
Note: The tweeter has been changed. The new tweeter is the same Seas model, but with the grid style cover/diffusor instead of the + style shown in the photo. The only performance difference is above 12kHz. The new tweeter is more rolled off above 12kHz on axis, but has better dispersion off axis. The measurements in the data package do not reflect the changes from the new tweeter.

These are a brand new, 6.5" 2-way speaker 100% complete except for the crossover. The woofer is a 6.5" Vifa PL line driver with a CCAW (copper clad aluminum wire) voice coil and a shielding can. It is an excellent woofer with a very smooth flat response on and off axis. It bottoms out very gracefully. The tweeter is a ferrofluid cooled 1" aluminum Seas unit. The cabinet is constructed of 3/4"MDF, except the front baffle which is about 1.2" MDF. There are small radii on the baffles edges to give a clean impulse response. There is a crossover cup on the back with a single XLR connector. All you need to do is build a passive crossover for it. Below is a package with a complete set of acoustic, electrical measurements and even a passive crossover design. You can plug this data into your speaker modeling software to design your own crossover if you desire to. The NHT product page below has dimensional information.

XdS satellite

These are a brand new, 5.25" 2-way speaker 100% complete except for the crossover. The woofer is a 5.25" Seas Excel driver with a shielding can. It is basically a Seas W15CY-001. The tweeter is a ferrofluid cooled neo 1" aluminum Seas unit. The cabinet is constructed of 3/4"MDF, except the front baffle which is made of epoxy filled BMC. It is like hitting a brick. The front baffle around the tweeter has very large radii to give a clean impulse response. The speakers are only available in the Burgundy/Oak finish. The cabinet has two 1/4"-20 threaded inserts located on the bottom, so it can be bolted to a stand. The stands in the photo are not included, but are available for $40 extra. There is a terminal plate on the back of the cabinet with four sockets spaced on 3/4" centers, designed to fit standard dual banna plugs. All you need to do is build the crossover or program a DSP audio processor for it. Below is a package with a complete set of acoustic, electrical measurements and even a passive crossover design. XdW subwoofer

This product is no longer available

These are a brand new, long throw dual 10" subwoofer with a 500W internal amplifier. Very low distortion. Less than 0.3% at 60Hz at 95dB at 1M. Aluminum cone woofers with 2" diameter voice coils, 12mm Xmax, dual aluminum shorting rings and a cross shaped pole piece. The amplifier has only an XLR input and a +/-10dB volume adjust. The subwoofer has a -3dB point of about 55Hz with a 12dB/octave roll off below that. IT REQUIRES some external EQ to be useable as a subwoofer. You can EQ it to be flat down to 40Hz, 30Hz, 20Hz, whatever you want. This is just a function of the EQ that you have. The upper frequency cutoff is around 250Hz. The NHT product page below has dimensional information. Many of the specifications on the NHT website are only applicable when the XdW is used with the XdA, so they do not apply in this case.

TIFF gold plated brass binding posts

Out of stock for now.

These binding posts are super heavy duty. They are very long so they can be used in 1.25" thick MDF. Includes color coded plastic insulators for indicating polarity and for mounting them in a metal chassis. The 1/2" hex nuts on the binding posts are not captive, so ring terminals can be used. 12 gauge bare wire will fit into the cross drilled hole on the outside. The internal wires can be soldered or connected with a supplied set screw. 10 gauge will fit easily. See link below for a complete drawing.

Gold plated ring terminals

Heavy duty gold plated ring terminals. Thru hole for stud is 0.34". Accepts up the 8 gauge wire.



Foster WF-100K subwoofer plate amplifier

These amplifiers are no longer available

Foster subwoofer plate amplifier. 115W into 4ohms, 80W into 8ohms. 4th order (24dB/octave) low pass adjustable from 50-200Hz. 0-180 degree phase switch, RCA and speaker level inputs, volume control. Unit has a 3rd order (18dB/octave) high pass filter at 29Hz with a Q of 0.707 built into the subwoofer section. Can easily be modified for any Q and cutoff frequency that you want by changing R615, R617, R618, C607, C608 and C609. The amplifier also has a spectral tilt control that is adjusted to give about 10dB of shelving. It can be manually adjusted with a pot on the PCB. See response curves linked below. A drawing of the amplifier and schematic are both linked below. Two of these amplifiers can be bridged together to produce 220W into 8ohms. See the FAQ below for details of bridging and filter modifications.

This amplifier is available in two versions. Ver1 is externally switchable between 115/230VAC. If you want this version, clearly indicate so on your order. Ver2 has a modified HP filter to extend and flatten the bass response down to about 20Hz. See the pdf files below for the measured frequency response. This version is 115VAC only.

TC Sounds drivers

.

These woofers are all samples made by TC Sounds. Some of them may be the same as catalog TC woofers, but I have no way of knowing if they are. All of the drivers have been swept at a high level to ensure there are no coil rubs, open coils, etc. All of the drivers have a raw, unpainted aluminum frame. I've put some notes in the very, very far right hand column of the spreadsheet with comments about the particular woofers. All of the woofers are long throw types with long voice coils. Some are dual coil, some are single. Look at the Re column in the spreadsheet to tell. If you want me to measure the T/S parameters for a particular driver, I can do it for $20. If you then purchase the driver, I'll deduct $10 from the price. The photos below are representative of the woofers. Some of them have writing on the cone as they are samples. Some have rear gaskets, some do not.



NPT-11-010-1

.

This driver is a direct replacement for the subwoofer (bottom two drivers ONLY) used in the following NHT speaker models. M1.8, MII, M2.1, M2.3, M2.3a and SW1. This driver was originally manufactured by Peerless. It was a custom driver for NHT. There was a large mass ring installed by Peerless underneath the dustcap. These drivers are NOS (New Old Stock) drivers that have had the mass ring added on top of the dustcap. That is the large aluminum ring that is visible in the photos. This driver is very unusual (extremely low Fs of 20Hz for instance). You will not find a correct replacement driver anywhere else. It replaces all of the following drivers used in the above NHT speaker models. 11-005-1, 11-007-1, 11-007-2, NPT-11-007-1, NPT-11-008-1, NPT-11-019-1.



NPT-11-005-1

.

This driver is the tweeter used in the following NHT speaker models. M1.8, Zero, M1C, M1, M1a. It may have been used in similar NHT speakers. To determine if this in the correct replacement tweeter for your NHT speaker measure the outside diameter of the tweeter and the number of mounting holes. This tweeter has an outside diameter of 86mm (3.38") has four mounting holes and does not have an NHT logo. Several different tweeters were used in the above speaker models. You must measure your tweeter to make sure this one will fit.



AR 12" **Price lowered**

.

This driver was used in the AR Limited 3 loudspeaker. It shares the same frame as the NHT 1259. It has a poly cone, rubber surround and porous paper dustcap. It is optimized for vented enclosures. About 6dB more sensitive than a 1259, but with much less bass extension or output capability.

Inductance parameters have been added to the spreadsheet for this driver. I've also posted a Word document below with several recommended alignments for the AR 12" woofer. All of the alignments can be made with the WF-100k amplifier above. There is one vented alignment, several assisted vented alignments and one sealed alignment included.

Jensen 15"

.

This woofer was used in a Jensen home speaker line that targeted the Cerwin Vega home product. It is quite a nice woofer. High sensitivity, flat BL curve, linear suspension, low inductance (1 to 1.5mH from -8mm to +8mm of throw) for low flux modulation distortion. It has a 1" pole piece vent hole. It can play loud. Perfect for a 2 or 3 way PA cabinet or dipole subwoofer. I have put together a small data paackage below with acoustic measurements for the driver. HOWEVER, in all measurements, the driver is in free air. It is not mounted in an enclosure. The purpose of these measurements is to show the high frequency behavior of the driver and the THD. There are several measurements with the mic located at different distances from the driver. The measurement with the mic located at 10" and 1m are accurate above about 600Hz. The measurement with the mic located 0.25" from the driver is accurate below 600Hz. The low frequency response and THD of the two nearfield measurements will be affected quite a bit by the lack of an enclosure. Whith the driver mounted in an appropriate enclosure, the low frequency extension will be greatly increased and the THD will drop a lot due to the increase in the output of the fundamental from the driver.

NPT-11-025-1

.

This driver is the lower midrange used in the NHT M3.3 and M2.9 loudspeakers. It has very high power handling and reasonable distortion.

This driver is the subwoofer in the NHT M2.5i loudspeaker. It is optimized for vented enclosures.

NPT-11-070-1

This driver is the upper midrange driver used in the NHT M3.3 and M2.9 loudspeakers. It has a very flat frequency response, works well in a small enclosure and has low distortion. It is an off the shelf Seas H453. Needs a 12dB/octave filter at or above 300Hz. Can go as high as 8kHz.

NPT-11-075-2

This product is no longer available

This driver is the subwoofer in the NHT Sub2 subwoofer. It has the same exact motor and voice coil as the NHT 1259 except the Re is much higher. Great for very high output subwoofers. Use eight of these in your living room and really scare people.

This driver is the upper midrange driver used in the NHT AC2 center channel loudspeakers. It has a very flat frequency response, works well in a small enclosure and has low distortion. It is exactly the same driver as the NPT-11-070-1 with the addition of the bucking magnet and shielding can.

This driver is the subwoofer used in the NHT Super Two and Super Sub loudspeakers. It is optimized for vented enclosures.

This driver is the woofer for the VT3, VR3 and VC3 loudspeakers. It is optimized for larger sealed enclosures. It was used in 3-way models crossed over at 400Hz.

NPT-11-080-1

This driver is the midrange for the VT3, VR3 and VC3 loudspeakers. It has aluminum shorting rings in it for lower inductance and distortion. It was used in 3-way models crossed over at 2.5kHz. It looks exactly the same as the NPT-11-081-1, but it has a shorter voice coil which gives it higher sensitivity and lower Qts.

For both of the Peerless 5.25" woofers, 080 and 081, I have changed the price structure and packaging to make it easier for people to purchase small quantites while keeping me from losing too much money and time. Both drivers are now exempt from the $80 minimum order, but only when shipped to an address in the USA. The minimum order is one pair of drivers.

NPT-11-081-1

This driver is the woofer for the VT-2.4 and VS-2.4 loudspeakers. It has aluminum shorting rings in it for lower inductance and distortion. It was used in 2-way models crossed over at 2.5kHz.

NPT-11-096-1

This product is no longer available

This driver is the tweeter for the later Super Audio SB1, SB2, SB3, ST4, SC1 and SC2 loudspeakers. It is a standard (good) 1" aluminum dome neo magnet with ferrofluid. 1st dome breakup is around 26kHz. There is a M4 x 0.7 tapped hole in the back of the tweeter for mounting. Great for line arrays, if you don't mind massive comb filtering or just getting the tweeter very close to the midrange/woofer.

NPT-11-116-1

This product is no longer available

This driver is the woofer from the XdW subwoofer above. This is a super high performance driver. It has a 2" diameter, 4 layer, 29mm long coil which gives it an Xmax of 12mm. A large double stacked magnet structure is used along with a very thin 5mm tapered top plate. This guarantees saturation of the steel poles at the magetic gap, resulting in very low flux modulation distortion. The pole piece is cross shaped with large aluminum shorting rings above and below the gap. The cross shape of the pole piece assures a very symmetric magnetic field and linear inductance. The aluminum shorting rings provide a low, constant inductance, low flux modulation and gives a very low thermal resistance path for voice coil heat to escape from the coil. The aluminum cone and super sized dust cap make the cone assembly very rigid. The first breakup mode of the assembly is at 2.2kHz! Very high for a 10" woofer. Due to the low inductance and rigid cone assembly, this driver can be used up to 800Hz as a woofer in a 3-waysystem.
