This year, the 6th annual PI DAY was held in Mr. Hoyle's class. Students had an opportunity to do classwork and enter various contests to explore, learn and celebrate the irrational number PI. Last year saw the first entrance of an original Pi song (see below for lyrics). Although no new songs this year, we did have some great projects. The winners of the 2001 Pi Day Contest are as follows:
2001 Winners include Renu Singh who memorized Pi to 160 decimal places

Sung to the Beatles " Let It Be " with new lyrics by Natakie Stopka and Ashley Steen. From Pi Day 1999
When I find myself in need of circumference
helpful Pi comes to me.
Showing me the answer,
let pi be !
And in my hour of darkness
pi is continuing to puzzle me.
There won't be an answer
let pi be !
Let pi be, let pi be,
it goes on to infinity,
there won't be one answer
let pi be !
Among the lost and lonely mathematicians,
living in the world with me
they're looking for the answer,
let pi be !
Because there is no end, they're downhearted,
but there's still a chance that they will see
there is but one answer
let pi be !
Let pi be, let pi be,
it goes on to infinity,
there won't be one answer
let pi be !
(repeat chorus and fade out)
The task for the students was to come up with some good pi sentences. Here's a good one from Kyla Spindler:
How I Made A Story Including Pi. Ashley wrote one weird sentence. Stephanie started seventeen not so bad drawings that showed pi. Stacey made one new sentence. "Not pi, dessert!" mentioned Hoyle.
