The Women In Green

by #3 Kate Souza

If memories were worth a dollar
And laughter, a dime
I could trade all of mine in
And all the money in the world would be mine.

But I'd rather laugh,
And with my memories, never part
For money is worthless
When one is rich at heart.

For about three months
I was part of a team.
Some called them unstoppable,
These women in green.

Yet, while strong fighters they are,
There is more to see.
These women in green
Are my extended family.

Through good times and bad
We stuck side by side.
Through victories and losses,
It was one helluva ride.

On the court there was no joking
If there was work do be done.
35 points in two minutes?
Let's get it on try 1!

From olympic drills to zig-zag,
We worked hard everyday
And our buzzer-beating games
Turned Hoyle's few hairs gray.

And though we were not E.A.C. champs,
We all know we're the best.
Physically, mentally, emotionally,
We top all the rest.

Far into the tournament we went,
One song in our hearts,
One goal in our minds,
And we were never apart.

For it was off the court
Our souls were able to shine
Us thirteen were inseparable,
Together all the time.

It's okay to forget our record,
The details, scores, and stats.
But always remember the good times,
The stories, jokes, and chats.

Spaghetti suppers at Papa Ginos,
Dinners at Fays,
Girls night at the movies,
Hanging out on half days.

Fiery seances and war paint,
Beautiful braids on our head,
Crystal's pink paints,
Our sleepover - enough said.

You guys mean so much to me
I will never forget this season.
When asked why I love to play ball,
This team is my reason.

For in the end you realize,
It is just a game,
In years to come one will forget
The glory and the fame.

Yet, memories, they stay alive
Deep inside your heart.
Reminiscence is the key
To make sure we never part.

Together we've grown
Into more than just a team
We are friends, we are family
We are the proud women in green.
