In conjunction with the BBC documentary, "In Search of Steve Ditko", I'm presenting some Ditko-ania of my own here.

Way back when the Earth was still young (1973) Joe Brancatelli published from his swank Brooklyn, NY offices this collection of Steve Ditko's most intriguing work, Mr. A.

Below is the cover, editorial, and centerfold for that issue.

All art copyright Steve Ditko, 2007.

The editorial is copyright Joe Brancatelli, 2007.

The centerfold, shown below, was reminiscent of Hieronymus Bosch's depiction of Hell in his painting The Garden of Earthly Delights.  Click here to see Bosch's work as a comparison.

This centerfold had seen earlier publication as the wrap-around cover of The Collector #26, a fanzine published by Bill Wilson.   Besides the obvious inspiration from Bosch's work, what also caught my eye in this art's first printing was that the word DECEIT was misspelled several times as DECIET.  Fortunately this spelling error was corrected by the time Joe Brancatelli re-published it.  No one ever said that Steve Ditko was anything but a genius.  However, having an editor would've helped.  Ditto for a production man to catch the off-registration of the colors.

Part B of the centerfold

Am I destined to fall into the abyss because I dared to call the right hand portion of the Mr. A centerfold B?  Only time will tell.
