Desyn Masiello & Omid 16B - Proton Radio: Magnetic Grooves (January 27th, 2007)

A couple of weeks ago, Desyn Masiello and Omid 16B did a guest mix on Israeli-based DJ Rollo's Magnetic Grooves show on Proton Radio. Minus their SOS partner in crime, Demi, the duo hammered out an excellent two-hour set full of deep house gems. Here's the tracklist:
  1. Da Lukas - Here I Am (Omid 16B Edit)
  2. 16 Bit Lolitas - Neptune
  3. The Timewriter - Lion Steps
  4. ID
  5. ID
  6. ID
  7. ID
  8. ID (Lifelike/Kris Menace?)
  9. Deadmau5 - Faxing Berlin
  10. ID
  11. John Dahlbäck - If You Give Me (Original Mix)
  12. ID
  13. Diana King - Get Me At This Party (Alex Grani Remix)
  14. Omid 16B - In Da Process
  15. Q-Force - Obsession (Pierre J Remix)
  16. Silicone Soul - The Unforgiven Dub
  17. ID
  18. Francois Dubois - Blood (Andy Cato Remix)
  19. Trentemoller vs. Marc Romboy - Impact Disco (Rowan Blades Edit)
  20. The Egg - Walking Away (Dusty Kid Dub)
  21. Openair - The Octagon (Mashtronic Remix)
  22. Alex Kenji - Luv
What the fook is track 6 (the one playing at 38:00)? It's like Desyn and Omid are channeling that same energy that Desyn used to made CD1 of Balance 008 so great. I can't find a weak track in the near entirety of hour one. Hour two starts off a little weak, but things start cooking again with a brilliant remix of Diana King's "Get Me At This Party" by Alex Grani (featuring samples from Voices of Kwahn A.D.'s classic "Ya Yae Ya Yo Yo Yo"). The guys keep things interesting throug the end, peaking 113 minutes in with a ridiculously banging Mashtronic remix of "The Octagon" by Openair. All in all a very good mix that I'm enjoying more and more with each subsequent listen.

Desyn Masiello: SOS Mix CD in the next 6 Months

Desyn Masiello sat down with inthemix and discussed his Good Vibrations tour in Australia along with his plans for 2007. Interesting quote:
"I’m working with the expanding SOS collective – Demi and Omid currently – but more members on the horizon soon. We’ve just set up a new studio in London and the focus the next few years will be that. We are working on a number of mix CDs now too, they’ll be out in the next 6 months."
An SOS compilation was originally scheduled to come out in '06, though that obviously didn't come to pass. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see. Read the entire interview here.

Review: Desyn Masiello - Balance 008

Label: EQ [Grey] [EQGCD012]
Release Date: October 2005
Rating: 9/10

Among the top 3 compilations released in 2005, and a breath of fresh air in today's market. Both CDs are chock full of bass-heavy, booty-shaking house music that is infinitely more fun and appealing than the majority of mix CDs out there. A vast improvement over Desyn's Original Series mix of one year earlier. My only complaint is against Desyn's sometimes questionable taste in music. There are a couple of spots where things just get obnoxiously trite, and even banal. Luckily, the music changes up before it becomes disastrous, but it's still a noticeable blemish on a near perfect mix compilation.
