Happy New Year everyone! Lets hope the media starts to focus on people who truly make great music... .Aren't we all tired of reading in the entertainment sections about how Brittany drove her kid around without a seat belt or P diddy's new clothing line or whatever else he's pedaling other than music? Or how many times some guy got shot in the face before he was able to make a million selling record or about some 23 year old country singer who really paid his dues in Nashville for three years, who's now making tons of money singing some song that sounds like he didn't pay his dues at all?? Hey, I just had to say that cause when I picked up the paper the other day and read the entertianment section and read about five different musicians and entertainers and none of what the paper wrote was about what these people's talents were or suppose to be. I dont think Mel Gibson's talents are drinking really heavy and then blurting out really stupid shit that he doesn't even believe. I would like to read in an entertainment section about what someone did with their music or films or art, how they were thinking, who played on the recordings. Must be the dumb people writing these columns aren't smart enough to sit down and listen to a John Coltrane record or a Green Day record or Bob Dylan. There are great things all around in all forms, new and old. And these pellet heads are just cashing in on the people's problems and listing it under entertainment...

Anyway, I'm focused into great music and positive things to come and heard a lot of great new things as well as old things that have been around.........

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2006... Hey, so this past year the Cream did get back together, that was cool, what could be better than a bunch of musicians gettting up in front of thousands of people and really playing their instruments  and jamming without as Ginger Baker says, all that leaping about... Nice to see a Concert with something popular that's just about the music Cool!

Ok this year's highlights in music for me anyway, John Coltrane  Thelonius Monk at Carnegie Hall released after being in the vaults all these years. Miles Davis at Ilse Of White release on dvd. So after I had played at the Planetarium I went out to a bar and was approached by this person who says,"you're Mark Marquis... Didn't you have a concert tonight?'' and then said that they loved music and that they had heard of me but my type of music wasn't what they were into and for the most part, that kind of music wasn't really  accessible to the average music listener, that it was far out and had no feeling. So keeping my cool, I said "Well I like all kinds of music. What do you listen to?''  They said they liked Garth Brooks, Tim Magraw and all the stuff I hate. Then going even further they say that Country is ''the real true music", the backbone of the country or something stupid like that. So I just kept my cool and started to agree with them. I said as a matter of fact I was really into country music and they should stop over and check out some of the music that I had. Later that night I told them you gotta listen to this with  the earphones. Right as they were adjusting the earphones I went into my guitar case and got a spare E string, heavy gauge, came up behind them and wrapped it around their neck then tying them to a chair. Not being my intention to strangle them but in my twisted mind I was going to educate them. I turned them around after fastening them to the chair saying "Country ...the backbone of the USA ... Well we are going to listen to John Coltrane." Their fearful eyes started to bulge and then they started screaming" NO, NO, not that Please!!!! About ten minutes into A Love Supreme their eyes started to roll in the back of their head. Right at that moment I came to a startling realization... If a person were square and goofy enough it just may be possible to kill them with music!!! I reveled in delight at my possible discovery. I was now inspired. I knew what devine calling or mission was now to be. When they came to,I had changed the CD  to Miles Davis, Bitches Brew. The person was writhing in pain trying to scream and drown out the music but the music was  pumped directly into their ears by way of earphones. Ha ha ha... for a moment I felt sorry for this person but then realized this was the same monster that probably subjects people to "I Have Friends In High Places", by Garth Brooks... So reaching for the volume control I said  "Dig This!" and turned it up. Then in a moment of murderous inspiration I started to think what would it be that could take it the rest of the way, to kill this poor excuse for a music listener. Then I started to ponder what would be so torturous... to kill by music.. mmmm could it be Eric Dolphy? or maybe Charles Mingus? or maybe Rhaasan Roland Kirk?  Then it came to me!  It would be so painfully excruciating to the average music listener that I started kicking my heels in a euphoric trance... And selected the track "Little Rooty Tooty" by the high priest of bee bop Thelonius Monk. To my delight it was over... And in true Jazz form... As a matter of fact it was over in less than 24 bars... Less than one chorus.  In delight I went to the phone and called the Police to report  a murder. Ahhh... I had no fear or guilt or remorse for I knew I was totally innocent. After all... Monk had killed him!!! Ha ha ha ha!!!!! Happy Halloween!.. .............................

Music at the Planetarium was burning, if you weren't there you really missed it and you probably  weren't, let's just say there were more notes than people well next time  come on out!...................

The Mark Marquis Group will  be in west Newbery for an outside concert Thursday July 28th 7:00 pm in the park right near the center ...........................................

Thanks for all the people that attended the last number of concerts like the Planetarium with Johnny G. Also it felt great to play the "Above The Clouds" CD just as we had recorded it. What a great crowd man you could hear a pin drop, the audience was so attentative and John Vaillancourt's solo on I am what I am Blues was really something! Keep an eye out for some of the footage on the local cable stations for some of the last couple concerts...........

Also what a great testimony of the way all the musicians and music lovers felt about the late Paul Cosenza at the Paul Cosenza Tribute at the Nights of Colombus about forty musicians playing their asses off including a Delmar's Reunion WoW!  Always two drummers on stage the whole night...................

OK next concerts Thursday, July 14th @ Carter Park in Leominster 7:00 pm.... More listings soon!............................

The area's music community is very saddened by the passing of legendary drummer and one of my best friends Paul Cosenza in the 60s through the growing years of Rock n Roll Paul was THE drummer everyone looked to...... Playing with the Delmars and then Michael and the Messengers hit record "Just Like Romeo And Julliete. All Paul's musician friends will remember his infectious enthusiasm for playing and listening to music and the classic lines he would come out with in any situation. Paul was the Coolest!!!!!...............

More concerts coming soon! We will be doing a concert performing the "Above The Clouds" CD as is all the way through as well as some other concerts in the area to be listed soon each one a different event.................

We will also be going into the recording studio to start working on a new CD........ Cool music coming soon get ready!.............

Thanks for all that came out for The Most Peaceful Night of the Year Christmas Concert, this is really a great thing for me knowing all these great and talented people save this time every year and do this concert. Very great and giving thanks everyone, you guys are the best.

So anyway so here is my wishes for a new year. Some people stop being so greedy and try to get along and stop making wars maybe these people should start listening to the Beatles. Strap them to a chair and make them learn the words and music to "All You Need Is Love". Or have them try to learn to play jazz, they will be so freaking busy practicing and trying not to suck they wont be able to start trouble... lso in the new year could we get rid of things like American Idol or as I call it the show who ever sings the highest loudest and has the most surface lightweight talent wins. Lets really hope the Cream gets back together now that would  be cool. Like Jack Bruce said, the Cream was a jazz group, we just didn't tell Eric Clapton. Maybe someone as cool as Frank Zappa or John Lennon will show up on the music scene, that would be cool! Maybe more people will listen to the message Bob Marley The Beatles were sending out.Or really just Listen  to the sounds you want to hear not just the the ones they provide you with, they being the companys selling you [the product ] more places to listen to good music and in the new year let's listen to these types of music..... Beautiful, ugly, loud, soft, normal, crazy, soothing, frantic, new, nostalgic, happy, sad and Good! but not bad........ Peace and love in the new year!
