Mt St. Helens -- Hike Up and Ski or Board Down.

Saturday, April 17 (Plan is to drive up late Friday, camp in parking lot, and hike and ski on Saturday. This should get you home by 5pm or so Saturday. Some are planning on staying over in Hood River, OR on Saturday night and possibly doing some downhill skiing at Mt Hood Meadows on Sunday. Check out these pictures of this years hike up Mt St Helens.

This will be the 8th annual trip, and looks to be another great one.

We get a group of about 20 people to drive down after work Friday night to Mt St Helens (about 2 hours south of Seattle). Camp and party Friday night at the trail head parking lot (some sleep in their cars, some tents, and others stay at local hotel. Wake up the next morning and hike up, in the snow, to the top of St Helens. (This is about a 4-5 hour hike, and the snow actually makes it easier than in the summer).

Then you have an UNBELIEVABLE (fantastic) ski or board down to the bottom - where we have a BBQ party in the parking lot.

(Bring your own food to grill, and beverage, as this is a BYOB activity. It is painful to watch everyone else eat when you have nothing.)

Most either snow board or Rondene Ski (which you can rent at either Marmout Works in Bellevue, or Pro Ski off of the Aurora Hwy (99) -- I would reserve your equipment now as it rents out quickly this time of year. I would only think of Telemark Skiing if you are really good with cable bindings, etc..

If interested, e-mail me at jim.jones5@comcast.net to get more info and/or sign up for the trip.
