SEA MONKEY LOG
Batch 1 page 2
Day 9 4:26 PM MST: Eyes the sea monkeys have eyes. Amazing these little things now have 2 Black spots on the top of their heads.  I aerated the water by blowing through a straw into the water I don t think the sea monkeys enjoyed this very much as most of them seemed to go into shock and just float in for a while but they all seem to be alright now.  When really close to the Sea monkeys you can also differentiate their legs (they appear to have about 20 of them) and now that I have gone cross eyed looking at the tiny sea monkeys (although they have doubled in size again) the sea monkeys are going to be alone for the weekend. And since this weekend the lights will be out for most of the time who knows what kind of situation we will come back to Monday. I have tried many variations of the camera focus and still haven t found any that I like.  But this one appears to get you even more up close to the sea monkey environment and lets you see them a bit clearer; Hopefully they will grow up soon.

Day 12 6:18 pm MST: I came in today to see the sea monkeys dancing around and having a grand old time. Although I did notice that most of them are swimming around the top of the water more or less ice skating on the underside of the concaved meniscus*. Having read all about sea monkey care I know that this is a problem with low oxygen levels in the water. So unfortunately I had to blow air in through my straw and bring terrible disruption to their carefree little lives. As the last time most went into shock and floated in the water staring up at me with expressions saying we are sorry for what ever we did please don t do that anymore.   The very small sea monkeys seem to have gone into hiding at the bottom of the tank in a way to try and escape the horrid aeration of their world.  After destroying their Zen like atmosphere I added 3 scoops of sea monkey plasma III; which appears to be a kind of sea monkey crack; as the sea monkey went crazy diving against the tiny clear grains of sand almost trying to catch them with their tiny legs.  After adding the sea monkey plasma (crack) I added the a small spoon full (sea monkey spoon) of food this brought the now Jones ing baby sea monkeys to the top to try and grab their equivalent of  Doritos I believe and started swimming around in their food. All in all a strange day in sea monkey world as the violent waves of oxygen hit them then to them being pepped up and finally a nice meal to calm the day off.

Day 21 4:18 pm MST: Today I received the Sea-monkey ghostly galleon the best way to start up a sea monkey collection as it comes with a lot of items needed for the care of your sea-monkeys (i.e. I got the million-bubble air filter, which allows me not to violently disrupt their ecosystem.). With my million-bubble air filter I added some much needed oxygen to my little sea-monkeys. This seems to paralyze the sea monkeys less then the volcanic type reaction my straw seems to give them. The sea monkeys have easily doubled in size yet again. And there are tons of baby sea-monkeys again I don t know if these things bread like rabbits or if the sea monkey crack I put in earlier had a lot more eggs in it. I still haven t found the proper focus for the camera but you can defiantly see the sea monkeys in the pictures now.

Day 28 1:16 PM MST:  Things are still pretty quite in the Ocean of light.  Apparently the sea monkeys are spending their weekends outside as now the appear to have suntans and are becoming reddish brown. I could complain but at least on their way in and out of the ocean they wipe their feet so there are no little wet marks showing their trail from the aquarium to the window/tanning bed I believe I saw a bit of perversion going on in the sea monkey habitat. As a large little shrimp was apparently being attacked by a smaller more aggressive little bugger, while looking closer I had to turn my eye s away these little guy were having relations right in front of all the other. Well luckily it appears that the sea monkeys aren t bashful and I didn t see any teasing going on towards the two horny monkeys so I guess that I ll consider them responsible enough to have their own fun, but the first sign of a sea monkey lawyer and I m going to have to find a way to determine the sex of these creatures and separate them. Not that, that is supposed to do any good, as the females are supposedly able to self-reproduce. Which makes me wonder do female sea monkeys need a male sea monkey like a male sea monkey needs a bicycle?

Day 37 1:05 PM MST:  As usual sorry for the lack of updates. But lots of news for the sea monkeys this week. Wednesday march 1st (day 29) I decided the sea monkeys were finally big enough for me to move them from the baby sea monkey spoon of food to the adult sea monkey food probably not the best choice I could have made, however the sea monkeys were happy to have a dusting of food covering their water and happily swam after the pieces of drifting food particles. As I showed up Thursday and the water was a lovely greenish indicating that the sea monkeys were indeed over fed. Thursday I also added a few inches of distilled water to the ocean of light and the sea-monkeys seemed to be happy as the newly introduced water stirred up the sediment on the bottom and pushing more of the food down into the water. Maybe the sea monkeys are bored and need a beach ball or something to keep them exercising and entertained.  Last Friday I gave the Sea-monkeys their bi monthly dose of sea monkey crack. This time they seemed much less interested in it maybe due to the extreme over feeding from Wednesday, as the water was still greenish tinted and cloudy. Monday I returned to work to find the sea monkeys had evidently doubled in size there must have been steroids in this batch of sea monkey crack. Wednesday I have started noticing that the sea monkeys are pairing off more and more frequently I can t tell if they are monogamous or not as I don t have any trackers of way of distinguishing the sea monkeys from each other. Apparently the sea monkeys must be very bored as this is all I ever see them doing with the exception of some of them working out by dragging some of the dregs from the bottom of the ocean of light and carrying them to the top only to swim around with them until they become to tired to carry them any more (I m guessing that this is a result of steroidal sea monkey crack if) I think one of the sea monkeys was talking with an Austrian accent trying to be the Schwarzenegger of the tank. Hopefully that sea monkey will get a lucrative movie contract and remember his/her roots.

Day 48 3:15 PM MST: SPRING CLEANING. Today the poor world of sea monkeys went through a tough time. First of all they had to hear me screaming and cussing out the companies ISP (internet service provider) for making a lot unauthorized changes to our DNS* with out giving me even a little notice. Hopefully, I haven't scared their poor little lives by talking like a sailor in front of them (although I'm more concerned with what the people in training in the room next to me think). So today in an effort to calm my nerves I decided that it was time to clean the Ocean of Light as the bottom was covered with a grandiose amount of dead sea-monkeys old skeletons and assorted sea-monkey wastes (you know old beer cans and whiskey bottles). I started by doing a bit of research at the sea monkey worship page (and you thought I had gone over board with my sea-monkeys) and found the correct way to transfer my sea-monkeys to a new "clean"er environment. So I started by cleaning out my new tank "The sea monkeys haunt the ghostly galleon (day 21)" with the hot water from the coffee maker (as seen on day 1). I then took my sea monkey leash* (again day 21) and started off by sucking out a generous amount of sea-monkey water and putting it in the new tank. Then by capturing sea-monkeys (some of them were attached in sea monkey passion at the time) with the leash. This proved to be about at traumatic as the old aeration techniques as the spastic sea monkeys would swim around violently upon being captured in the ball of the sea-monkey leash and finally relaxing after spending a few seconds in the new tank. After transporting the monkeys and most of the water I took a paper towel and poured the remaining "dirty" water through this improvised filter (hopefully the acids and impurities of the paper will not affect the delicate sea monkey environment). After finishing the transfer as the paper towel filter was not very quick at filtering the water and removing the sediments (I don't have any filter paper hanging around so I had to improvise and I didn't figure out how much water was lost in the transfer although the thought crossed my mind "I took chemistry a few times can you tell"). after the little creatures were in their new habitat I decided to reward them for the painful experience they had by giving them a heaping spoonful of sea monkey crack (plasma III day 12) and a large spoon full of the food (I hope I'm not making them masochistic by rewarding them for pain). Now the sea monkeys appear to be happy and swimming around as if nothing happened except for a couple that appear to have not survived the transfer to a new cleaner home or maybe are protesting the new clean habitat by littering it with their corpses.

Day 85 2:10 PM MST: Ouch sorry didn't mean to have 37 days between updates. But the lovely DNS problem hit again and this time on the weekend when I can in to fix it got in a car wreck. (apparently I run red lights a lot so beware of driving with me, even though I still swear that the light was green for me unfortunately I have no reliable witness so lock me in jail and throw away the key). Good thing the sea monkeys don't live off of psychic energy or after the past few weeks I think they would be evil enough to start growing horns. But as usual they just swim around in their little tank having adult relations all day long (what a life my next quick reincarnation I want to be a sea-monkey). Well natural selection is at work still we are down to about 7 sea-monkeys I haven't spent enough time with them and they don't line up to get a good head count (maybe I should send them to boot camp but then they might feel the need to break out and invade other sea-monkey habitats, although some specially trained SEAL sea-monkeys would defiantly be pretty cool) a few have been pregnant and been carrying around egg sack for a while but I have still not seen any babies I wonder what the gestation period is for prego sea-monkey? The water has been much cleaner since the last cleaning but I'm guessing that is due to the absence of the many amounts of sea-monkeys in the tank and the lack of dead bodies at the bottom (maybe some of these are SEALS.) Since changing the water and aerating the top of the tank has become crusty with white crystals I'm guessing that these are salt crystals but haven't had the foresight to bring in some tequila and limes and trying out a sea-monkey margarita. Who knows this summer maybe I'll throw some kind of sea-monkey themed party (naw probably not). Amazingly with the time from the last update there is relatively little to say about the sea-monkeys. Sorry they just swim around making out and I haven't been watching them that closely. With the amount of "activity" these little animals engage in I might have to password my site. Oh yea the camera picture still stinks so I'll have to work on that I have a few ideas I just need to implement them. And I just heard a little voice from tank yell "Go Avs", so at least they have good taste.

*Meniscus: The curved top surface of a liquid column. It is concave upwards when the containing walls are wetted by some liquid (such as water in a vertical glass tube) and convex upwards when wetted with other liquids (such as mercury in a vertical glass tube).

*DNS = Domain Name Server: This is how internet addresses are translated from names (i.e. www.yahoo.com) that are human readable to a more machine useful address (i.e. 204.71.200.75).

*Sea-Monkey Leash=a suction device kind of like a turkey baster or water irrigator (i.e. what you use to get water out of babies noses, ears, ) with a small reservoir at the top to give the sea monkeys a place to swim around while the water is trapped at the top picture coming soon (maybe.)
