This is from our trip to Ireland July 1998
Cliffs of Moher
These cliffs are the highest in Europe (yes - even higher than Dover).
Located about 10miles West of Doolin, they are one of the biggest tourist
attractions in Ireland. The one thing you can be guaranteed of when
visiting the cliffs is that the weather will be windy and wet.. This
was my third visit and like the previous two, I walked back to the car
very cold and wet. During our visit, Suzy and I saw a number of puffins
nesting in the cliffs - very cool birds.
The Craigh in Doolin
Craigh (pronounced "crack") is what the Irish call getting down and
getting pissed. Doolin is an old fishing village which has become
a centre for Irish music. There are four pubs, a hand full of B+B's
and a couple of restaurants in this village of about 400 people.
Each pub has live music every night. These sessions are all impromptu
gatherings with locals and foreigners getting together to play traditional
jigs and reels. This photo was taken at O’Connors pub; however, our
favourite pub in the area was McMannimans.
Conners Pass
This is taken just below Conners Pass on the Dingle Peninsula.
Much smaller (and less packed with tourist) than the Ring of Kerry, Dingle
has lots of great sights.
Dingle Harbor
Dingle is the tourist center of the Peninsula. It has lots
of pubs, B+B's and restaurants; however, the they definitely lack the charm
of Doolin. We did end up finding a great pub later that night which
had one of the best craigh sessions we saw during our trip.
Ring
of Kerry
This is taken from the Ring of Kerry looking out to the Dingle Pennisula.
The Ring of Kerry is cool; however, there are a few of drawbacks.
It is the biggest tourist attraction in Ireland (besides Dublin) with the
smallest roads. People and tour busses drive around the Ring and
traffic can be dangerous and difficult. If you do the Ring, set aside
a few days.
