Using an external flash with an optical slave module
An inexpensive slave module can be used to trigger an external flash that sits above the aquarium.
The slave module is attached to an external flash via a pc chord or the hot-shoe on the flash. The module senses the on-camera flash and fires the external flash at the same time.
A piece of aluminum foil reflects the flash to the optical slave and also prevents flash from causing glare on the glass.
A bit of experimentation will give you the right setting for your camera and flash.
