Using multiple external flashes with a wireless controller

Today’s Digital SLR camera systems offer wirelessly controlled external flashes which give you the freedom to place multiple light sources to illuminate your tank. Here, Styrofoam reflectors bounce the flash into the aquarium to illuminate a broad area of the tank.

A second flash (on a tripod in this photo) from the front of the tank is used to fill in shadow areas. Note the piece of filter floss used to diffuse the fill flash.

The Canon equipment used in these photos allows you to adjust the output of each flash separately to create a more 3 dimensional lighting effect.

In a pinch, you can cover the tank with a piece of glass and lay the flash on top pointing down.
