Shown as Joel on Thomas and Rebecca Census. (Parents)
Probably a transcription error.

Noel next appears on the 1786 Duplin County Tax List: 1 3 4 0 0 (1m 21/60, 3m -21/60+, 4f). The one taxed male is of course Noel and we can assume that one female was Peggy. That leaves 3 males and 3 females. Were they all children or did Noel have his parents or mother-in-law living with him? From later census records it looks like the six others in the home were in fact Noel and Peggy's children. The tax list tells us that Noel was born before 1765 and his sons were born between 1766 and 1786. The 1790 Duplin County Census lists the following: p.44 Penelton, Noal or Noah 2 3 6 0 0 (2m 16+, 3m -16, 6f). From this census, it looks like one male and two females have joined within four years. Because of the age of one male, it seems that either Noel had a son born between 1765 and 1775 or a brother with a possible wife are in the household which accounts for one of the extra females. The other one would be another daughter of Noel's born between 1786 and 1790. That a!
brother (or in-law) and wife (or in-law) were the others in the home is supported by the 1800 census. Noel is listed in the 1800 Duplin County, NC Census: 2m 10-16, 1m 16-26, 1m 45+, 1f -10, 1f 10-16, 2f 16-26, 1f 26-45. He is living next to John Southerland who is probably connected to the Robert Southerland that was involved with John New's will of 1780. This census record fits the 1786 record in that both have the same number of males and females except that one additional female is present, but born in 1790 or later. From this it appears that the six listed in 1786 with Noel and wife were probably all their children and they now have one more daughter and that the two extra people in the home in 1790 was probably another couple, but who were they?

Howell Collier

The Collier family traces its origin to the villiage of Caulieres in
Picardy,
France, back to 1164. One of the scions, Robert de Caulieres, entered the
service of Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain in their contest with the
Moors,
where he became acquainted with a young man from England, and when their
term
ofservice expired he accompanied his friend to England in 1482, married
Isabel, dau. of Sir John Doddington in 1483, settled at Darlaston. The
family
of Anne Caroline Hutcheson is descended from this ancestor through another
line; herimmigrant ancestor being William Collier, citizen and weaver of
London who came from England to York Co., in 1655; while Howell's family
came
from Londonin the person of Thomas Collier who settled in that part of
Charles
City Co.,which later became Surry, and Howell Collier was his

Info for Harry C. Vaiden, III and Melinda Pennington, Group 6

Reuben Mitchell (1753-1826) m. 1783 with Anna (Pennington). They were
cousins, both descendants of Group Ten, originally from Surry County VA. They
lived for many years in Chatham County NC. He was a veteran of the
Revolutionary War. They seem to have left no descendants.
Daniel Boone was a friend of the Mendenhalls of Group 4 in PA before
moving to western VA and NC. Group 10 was associated with the Boones along the
VA-NC line in the late 1700s. Group 7 came to be connected with Group 10 in
western VA and NC. All of them seem to have eventually lived for a while near
Henryville in Lawrence County TN in the early 1800s, and some intermarried,
especially Groups 7,8 & 10.
The Williamses, Smith and probably the Moores were also descendants of
Group 10's Pennington and Chappell family. Hope this helps.

Interested in any information on James PENNINGTON, b. 1752 in
VA. On 3 Sep 1798, he was entitled to 200 A. of second rate
land in N. fork of Trammel's Creek waters on Little Barren River
& on the E. side of Benj. Holland's survey camp; 20 poles from
said Holland's NE corner. Also, his wife Rachel VICK Pennington
and her father was William VICK. Also interested in the Pennington
children.

James Jr. was the oldest son who left to fight in the Revolutionary War. Later he
migrated to KY with his family and never came back to VA. Philip was the 2nd
son. He stayed home and took care of his parents. The family farm was in
Mecklenburg County VA very near the Brunswick County line. I don't know
exactly where it was. My great, great grandmother was Peggy (Pennington)
Hubbard, Philip's youngest daughter. The Hubbard farm was in Brunswick
County VA not far from the Pennington farm and I do know where the Hubbard
homestead was located.
By the 1830s Phillip's grandson, Drury Pennington and a Vick family were
living beside each other in Gibson County TN. Then we lost track of them. I
know 2 other descendants of Philip Pennington, but neither seem very
interested in the family. Our Group 10 and Group 8 families became very
co-mingled in Henryville, TN before the Civil War came along. I'll write
more later.
