Gerst Brewery 1953-  Corner of  6th Ave. South and Mulberry St.

The Gerst Brewery (opened in 1865).  It was one of the largest  breweries in the southeast.   This brewery owned a horse by the name of Doneau which entered the  Kentucky derby and won the crown in 1910.  A picture of that  winning horse still hangs over the bar at the Gerst House, a restaurant on Woodland Street near the Tennessee Titan's Stadium. The brewery closed in the mid 1950's and the vacant structure was destroyed by fire in 1990.
