Gerst Brewery 1953- Corner of 6th Ave. South and Mulberry St. The Gerst Brewery (opened in 1865) was the home of Ortels 92 beer. It was one of the largest breweries in the southeast. This brewery owned a horse by the name of Doneau which entered the Kentucky derby and won the crown in 1910. A picture of that winning horse still hangs over the bar at the Gerst House, a restaurant on Woodland Street near the Tennessee Titan's Stadium. The brewery closed in the mid 1950's and the vacant structure was destroyed by fire in 1990.
