"The Hard-Soft System", was founded in 1974 by Grand Master Johnnie Q. Wade, Jr.. Born in Sendia, Japan in 1953. He and his family traveled the United States and abroad, due to his father being an American Military Serviceman. At a young age while living in Germany, he was constantly being picked on by larger and older boys because of his multicultural heritage. His mother and father noticed that he has not able to defend himself. His mother taught him Kendo, while his father a military combat hand to hand specialist, ex-professional boxer, and ex-street fighter taught him how to box and defend himself. After much training he took on challenges with confidence.

The system is neither hard nor soft, but a harmonic blend of hard ( power, breaking ) with soft ( body dynamics, redirection, technique) and soft with hard. The system incorporates equal use of both hands and feet. The foundation of this system is scientific, and philosophical combining the principles of the classical martial arts.

"The Hard-Soft System", is part of a growing new field called freestyle karate (martial arts). This is a general term and not any particular style of martial arts. These systems are not usually bound or limited by ancient traditions, customs, ideas, myths and techniques.

"The Hard-Soft System", incorporates many martial art forms. From the United States of America; Boxing, Street Fighting and Wrestling. From Japan; Kendo, Karate, Judo, Jujitsu and Aikido. From Korea; TaeKwonDo and MooDukKwan and from China, Tai Chi Chuan and Kung Fu. These martial arts studies along with college studies in the Eastern and Western philosophies, sociology and culture came "The Hard-Soft System".
