The Dream

I had a dream last night It's not so unusual to dream at night When the sun is gone and the only light Comes from the place where your dreams lay It was a lovely sight The stars were shining in the morning light Her hair was soft and her eyes were bright There in the place where our love lay It was a peaceful world No one starving and no one at war No one's reasons worth fighting for And no one's country was a prison But then my dream was broke The sun was shining and when I awoke It was the same old world, oh what a cruel joke Why can't the world be as I saw it? I had a dream last night It's not so unusual to dream at night When the sun is gone and the only light Comes from the place where your dreams lay
