I knew she would go I knew she would leave for a place Where she could run faster All those small town lives Were like figurines made of plaster She never quite fit Was just a bit awkward, I'm glad that she's gone now 'Cause angels from on high, Shouldn't live on the ground, now They belong in the sky Flying so high They look like a meteor With a burning trail Ever rising to never fail I hope she stays strong Keeps her lightness, Holds on to her laughter Hope she follows her dreams Hope she finds what she's after And though I wish her well My heart it is breaking I know we could never be lovers Still it is aching My love is so pure Pure fantasy and pure madness My friends all tell me I'm happy Only when covered with sadness Still I stumble on With nothing to hold to She knows she needs nothing to hold Without being told to And if I was a bird I'd not be an eagle grand But a lone lost sparrow Flying over an empty land Searching for love Nurturing kindness Holding an olive branch high Loving with blindness And if I was a cloud I'd float very slowly I'd rain down such love On my one and only Then she would laugh Shake off the water Throw off her clothes, run through the rain Say "I'm Earth Mother-Daughter" With a garland of flowers All wrapped in her aubern hair She'd dance along with her children Carry them into the air Perhaps you can follow This spirit so soft and kind Walk along in her footsteps Keeping one pace behind Then if she should turn And you find yourself leading Cherish the moment together For it will be fleeting Fleeting and gone
