Reval: Keep Tabs on Your Portfolio Privately

Reval 3 lets you update the value of your portfolio as often as you want, but unlike those "free" quote sites on the web (where the cost of admission is your privacy), you don't have to tell anyone what you own or how much. Reval gets quotes on your stocks and mutual funds, but all information about the size of your positions stays on your computer. You can set price alerts, easily enter stock splits, and keep track of as many portfolios as you want. You can instantly call up detailed information on any of the stocks or indexes you follow.

[ACLU Defend Your Data Collection]

Reval 3 includes many new features. Reval now tracks Options as well as stocks. You can also have portfolios of any size, and include any kind of sheet in the Reval workbook. Tax View tells you how much you'll pay in capital gains taxes and your after-tax percentage return. Never be shocked, surprised or anguished by an unanticipated stock split again -- AutoSplit will tell you which of your stocks is set to split, and will make all the adjustments on the split date. Even Quicken won't do that! Reval will also advise you of upcoming earnings announcements (with earnings estimates). Reval 3 also adds some much-requested basics, like cash tracking and a summary of all your portfolios in one place.

Reval will work with Excel 97 and Excel 2000 (Windows) and Excel 98 (Mac).  Earlier versions of Excel will not work. The demo version of Reval 3 expires after 30 days. Register to use it forever!

What is Reval 3?

Reval combines the power and immediacy of the Internet with the privacy of your personal filing cabinet. You tell Reval what stocks you own. Reval gets quotes for those stocks and revalues your portfolio. Your holdings stay on your computer. They are never transmitted over the Internet, and you do not have to trust an Internet quote service to keep your holdings private. With the data already in Excel, you can easily link to Reval data with formulas in other Excel workbooks; as Reval fetches the data from the Internet, your linked workbooks incorporate that data.

You can track as many stocks as you want in as many different portfolios as you want, whether you own the stocks or not. You can change your portfolio(s) by just typing in the new stocks and clearing the old ones; no waiting for a silly form to load over the Internet. Reval can also keep you up to date on mutual funds and popular market indexes, such as the S&P 500, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, and the Nasdaq Composite Index. You can also follow foreign indexes, such as the FTSE 100 and the Nikkei.

Reval calculates how your portfolio has performed for the day and cumulatively, in both dollar and percentage terms. Reval also tells you which of your holdings have done the best and worst, both for the day and cumulatively. If you choose, Reval will alert you if your stocks hit targets that you specify. Reval also can show you a graph of your portfolio value over time and a pie chart showing the diversification of your portfolio. You can further customize these charts using Excel's suite of chart tools.

If you are tracking several different portfolios, you can revalue them all at once or individually. You can set Reval to automatically update your portfolio at regular intervals, as frequently as every 2 minutes.

The demo version of Reval has all the features of the regular version, but stops working after 30 days. To receive a registration code ($30), go here.
