Fountain of Youth

"In the woods the old ones, the big trees, their job is to give life and protect and nourish the young ones. When they're no longer standing we think they're gone, that we've lost something substantial. But they're still there. Their sap may no long be rising but they're still providing and giving back. It's like that with people too. When you think they're gone they're still here, taking care of everything. Don't you forget that."

Rita Joe/Poet Laureate of the Mi'kmaq people.

And I thought over again
My small adventures
As with a shore-wind I drifted out
In my kayak
And thought I was in danger,
My fears,
Those small ones
That I thought so big
For all the vital things
I had to get and to reach
And yet, there is only
One great thing,
To live to see in huts and on journeys
the gret day that dawns,
And the light that fills the world.
