This section is under construction, and is intended as a compilation
of information collected from our members travels. Please send
additions to Jim Kneale at Things to DoThe House of Manannan, Peel Castle, Castle Rushen, and Cregneash are all "can't miss". The House of Mannanin is exceptionally well done, and compares favorably to cultural exhibits anywhere. The Manx Museum in Douglas is more of a traditional museum, and the place to embark on any genealogical research. Allow for enough time if you want to dig deep. Spending an hour in the library while your family tours the museum won't get you very far. Get out of the car and go for a walk along trails that ring the
coastline. You meet all sorts of fascinating people outside of the
tourist areas. Things not to DoSad to say, but some Americans who travel overseas do not make the
best ambassadors. Some of us can be a bit loud, in-your-face, and
demanding. In a few instances in Douglas on our first trip in 2001, it
seemed that the demeanor of the server or store clerk with whom we were
talking changed, when it became apparent that we were Americans. On our
second trip, we made it a point to blend in and quiet down. We had a
better time, probably due to more interaction with people once they
figured that you weren't going to bite their heads off. |
