Karen ("Mom") is in her 17th year as a part-time teacher of Philosophy (mainly logic and ethics) to reluctant undergraduates in and around Baltimore, MD. Her main gig is at Villa Julie College, but other schools where you might have sat in on one of her classes during the last decade include The College of Notre Dame of Maryland (the Weekend College), Goucher College, alma mater Loyola College, and former full-time employer Lincoln Christian College-East Coast. Her degrees, which were all earned far longer ago than she cares to contemplate, are a B.S. in Math from the aforesaid Loyola, a(n) M.A. in Maths & Philosophy from Oxford University (where she was at Merton College), and a(n) M.A. in Theology from St. Mary's Seminary and University (the Ecumenical Institute). When not grading papers, running around after her children, or making web pages, Karen spends her copious free time reading mysteries, listening to National Public Radio, enjoying CD's of (mostly) classical music (esp. opera), volunteering as an on-air host (DJ) at WHFC-FM, renting videos of foreign films, following cricket scores online, planning her next diet, or just relaxing (ha!) over a cup of tea or coffee (or maybe a glass of wine?). Hobbies that have fallen by the wayside in recent years include cake decorating, cross-stitch, and (although this one was only ever flirted with) scrapbooking. A long-standing goal, still far from reached, is to become better at homemaking. Karen's real passion is making music, and nothing would make her happier than to sing in a good classical chorus again before her voice turns old and wrinkly. Meanwhile, she accompanies the Villa Julie chorus, and also plays piano and sings in the worship band at Joppatowne Christian Church, where she had been choir director. In a never-ending battle against the temptation to navel-gaze in public, Karen alternately launches, then abandons, then re-launches, her weblog (last re-launched in May, 2004). Her more benign online activities include joining the odd Web community (they're generally odder after she joins), always as "camillofan." ~~~ Karen's Links:(Okay, if you haven't already guessed, the "family website" is really Mom's pet project, which accounts for this page's being four times longer than any of the others. Proceed, if you think you've the stamina...)
