Aerial Photography - 8th Grade Science Rocket Launch, 2003

Orinda Intermediate School

Mr. Blouin, Mr. Miller, and Ms. Keefe

The following pictures are of the rocket launch activity for OIS science classes of 2003. The event took place at Sleepy Hollow School in Orinda, CA. A wide variety of rockets were launched from about 10AM until 2PM. I attended the event, and at about 12:20PM, I launched the LocalHawk, and took some aerial photos of the event. The first shot is of the school from the Northwest

The second photo shows the site from the west.

This third photo shows the launch site from above.

The fourth photo is a close-up of two pictures taken two seconds apart. In the one on the left, you can see a rocket on the launch pad, indicated by the white arrow. To the right, you can see that the rocket has been launched, and you can see the smoke trail left by the rocket by the motor. The wind has displaced the smoke trail toward the left.

The fifth photo is not of the launch site, but is of upper San Pablo reservoir, which is to the north of Sleepy Hollow school, across Bear Creek Road.
