Welcome to the Skunky LeMay Home Page.Skunky came to us from Green Chimneys, where they just no longer wanted him for some reason on April 1, 2000. He is about 150 pounds, and lives in our back yard in a little house that we built for him. He's fed twice daily (about two cups of pig feed each time), and given plenty of water and hay to nest in, and he's free to roam about the back yard (about 1/2 acre), where he is confined by a dog fence. Stories about Skunky:On the second day we had him (4/2/2000), we built a little pen around him made of hay bales. I came home from my run, and he was out of his pen, and sitting in a pile of leaves. I though "oh, Ellen decided to give him some freedom." So Ellen comes home, and says "so you decided to let him out?" Evidently he had broken though on his own. That Skunky. No stopping him. On Saturday 4/15/2000 Ellen came home to find him up on our porch. Evidently Skunky isn't very adept at going down stairs. There are only two steps to get up there, so he must have climbed them. I wasn't around and it took Ellen about 25 minutes to fashion an impromptu ramp for skunk to waddle down. He wasn't very good at that either, sliding off the ramp 1/2 way. That Skunker. I hope he learned his lesson. 5/1/2000 - His vet came over to see him. She and I agree that Skunky is classically handsome. Skunky's tusks are becoming too long, and one of these days we'll have to sedate him and saw them shorter. Otherwise the tusks will poke him in his cheeks and hurt. 8/5/2000 - Vet visit again. Skunky had been limping, but was getting better by the time the vet had arrived. We had his tusks removed and his hooves trimmed. The tusks were pinching his cheeks, and you have to have the hooves done every year or so. The vet had to tranquilize him, and he didn't appreciate being stuck with the needle and being tied down. There was about 5 minutes of heavy squealing before the drug finally took effect and he flopped over with his tongue hanging out. Good thing not too many people were around to hear it. He woke up with a hangover several hours later. 11/1/2000 - Skunky was Pet of the Day. 12/2000 - Skunky has been making more porch visits. Now he's learned how to get down more easily.
