Trade Organization & Consultant Links

The following is a list of links to various sound & A/V industry trade organizations and companies that provide related consulting services.

  • NSCA
    The NSCA (National Systems Contractors Association) represents the commercial electronic-systems industry. It started as a sound contracting association but has expanded to serve the fields of audio, video, paging, telecommunications, security control and others. Members include systems contractors/integrators, product manufacturers, consultants, sales representatives, architects and specifying engineers. The association provides technical and managerial education, NICET certification for technicians, preparation classes for certification testing, and the annual Systems Integration Expo, which is held in spring.

  • InfoComm (ICIA)
    The International Communications Industries Association (or ICIA) is a Pro A/V association that is best known for producing the InfoComm trade show. The US show is in June each year and is the main trade show for the A/V industry. In addition to the trade show, ICIA provides an e-mail news letter, CTS certification, preparation classes for certification testing, on line classes (from an A/V start up class to advanced design classes) and holds on site training classes at its headquarters.

  • AES
    The Audio Engineering Society is an association of recording, live sound and other sound engineers. AES produces a technical journal and a trade show around October each year. The show location usually alternates between New York and Los Angeles.

  • Syn-Aud-Con
    Syn-Aud-Con provides two or three day audio training seminars at locations around the country. These seminars cover the basics of sound systems and sound system design. They are ideal for training of entry level or moderately experienced employees of contracting companies, rep firms or manufacturers.

  • NAB
    The National Association of Broadcasters is an association of radio and television stations and sound and video production companies. NAB produces a very large trade show around in spring each year in Las Vegas. As well as the standard broadcast equipment exhibits, the show includes a multimedia area that features A/V equipment manufacturers.

  • USITT
    The Unites States Institute for Theatre Technology is an association of theatrical technicians and designers. The USITT sound commission provides excellent audio seminars and workshops during the trade show in spring of each year.

  • Theatre Sound Mailing List
    The Theatre Sound Mailing List is an automated responder that takes e-mail you send to it and forwards it to all of the other subscribers. It caters to people doing sound for musical theatre or plays, concerts, worship services, etc. It has about 600 participants in at least 17 countries. Members range from Broadway Pro's to High School Kids; this is a non-elitist forum. Anyone who has a question can post it on the list and they will get feedback from some of the best theatre sound people in the world. To sing up, follow the instructions on the web page.

  • Theatre Sound Design and Resource Directory
    The Theatre Sound Design and Resource Directory is published by Richmond Sound Design. It is for the benefit and use of all Sound Designers. This is primarily a directory of all sound designers who wish to have their resumes listed, web pages hosted or linked and secondarily a directory of associated sound design resources such as dealers, distributors, representative and manufacturers of theatrical sound equipment and services.
